p.s. the discussion including the translation is somewhere here on the forum if someone's willing to find it. The translation was done by member redbuggy. I did a quick search and couldn't find a particular thread, so it could be in one of the big threads. I tried a search for the words license and 2500 but they didn't seem to work. Andy

d**n, proboards just crashed and this is the second time I've typed this post.....
I don't think the range of serial numbers proves much, if anything. It could be as simple as a batch of numbers going missing at the factory or a faulty batch of games that never went out. It could even be that another series or game shared the same range, but that one should be easy to rule out (ARIS!)
The number was believed to be 11,790 for a long time amongst non Japanese speaking Westerners, mainly because they misinterpreted a number on one of the license cards given out to the competition winners. we eventually had the card and rules translated by a member and I think it was something like this:
1 game was given out to each of the 2500 fastest times in each of 3 classes (total 7500) An additional 2500 were given out on a random basis, based on the serial number of the entrant (the number on the license card). I can't remember if all entrants got a license card or not, but the one we saw was numbered 11,790 and came with a game, and that's why we all believed incorrectly that the total number was 11790.
Other than manufacturing faults, I don't see much reason why they would make more than 10000. After all, the rules as I've just described don't require any variance, UNLESS there were many ties for 2500th place in one or more classes, but I would expect that in that case, they would have reduced the random giveaways.

I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere but I just can't get to it...... "Which came first, the wolf or the egg?"
In case you don't know what I am walking about, there's on old brain teaser: Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

Based on all that, it would seem that the time period before Nintendo were able to release Mickey Mouse worldwide must have been quite short, otherwise Egg would be a LOT more common than it actually is, in fact, if the Disney problem had have gone on longer, it would have been Mickey Mouse that was the rare one and Egg the common one.
So, based on the assumption that the lifespan of Egg in the US (and elsewhere) was pretty short, we can begin to take slightly more educated guesses about whether a PS exists. In my mind, the possibility is there, because the information suggests that Egg did get released in the US. But for how long? Long enough for NOA to do a pocketsize version? We don't know. There was a thread long, long ago about whether PS versions were re-releases. Something to do with the nintendo logo being different..... I'm wondering if egg would have been withdrawn before PS even started shipping.
Of course, none of this helps us answer the question about Chef or Turtle Bridge!

Finally, can anyone provide a reputable source stating that Egg was only released in Australia, or is this just "word on the street" information? Thanks! Ash With all due respect to Flo, just about everything we know, including stuff printed in the book, is just 'word on the street' isn't it? I've said this for years, facts and figures we quote as 'facts' are just things we've heard and passed on over the years. I think that the number of truly proveable facts are quite low in comparison to the 'word on the street facts'. Just my opinion. Andy.

We shouldn't get our hopes up, but......I'm getting my hopes up. Although it's possible this repair guy never even saw the boxes. He might say 'What's pocketsize?' What a huge disappointment it will be if we ever find out they never existed Andy

Hee hee, I expect it's like falling off the wagon. One drink and then you can't stop yourself.
That photo of the full set is just a wonderful, wonderful sight, even with the blurring.

Why is it that DK2 is BY FAR THE WORST when it comes to faded LCD's? Surely it must be something other than the polarizer?

Hi all
I noticed that the most recent post date for the 'collections' board says August 2011, yet there are 2012 posts in there. The main board menu is not updating it seems.
I don't expect this to be fixed easily, but I thought I'd mention it.

Barry runs his own company now, Becker Marketing Associates So if you don't get a reply, try the contact link there. I hope he replies, but I am not hopeful for any useful information. After all, we're already clutching at straws with the Palmtex lead. What we really want is someone who worked at NOA, not Palmtex Andy

It would be great, but I agree that it's highly unlikely to happen.
If they just re-released old games, I think that would make a lot of people very angry. It would de-value their existing collections. I certainly wouldn't buy any re-released games.
If they were to release brand new games, though, I'm sure that most G&W collectors would buy them. I doubt that there would be much of a market for them other than in collectors, though. Most kids would look at them and say "they are no good, I want touch screens" or something like that!

Whilst doing some digging for 'Palmtex' I found this page.If you search for Palmtex, you'll find a mention of a leaflet/catalog, and by the description, it is slightly different to the one Aris has. It doesn't tell us much, but it's interesting to know that they did at least 2 different leaflets. Andy

I was doing a google search for Palmtex and came up with something: What about this guy? Barry BeckerAccording to his Linkedin status, he worked at Palmtex in 1982-3. His profile even mentions Nintendo games. If he has a very good memory, it might be worth asking him. Andy
