I've got a Donkey Kong 2, which in itself isn't in bad condition. However the LCD display is very very feint. Any ideas if this can be fixed?

Polarized filters to be replaced.
Unfortunately I've not been able to find new replacement parts, even over the net. So I can only offer you to use spare ones, taken from a broken game.
I'm pretty sure there's a thread somewhere, talking about those filters. I remember having made a pic of side-by-side good & bad filters. So if you open the game and take the filter apart, you'll be able to instantly diagnose the problem.

I think Pheldge is correct.
First try new batteries, and if that doesn't work, it is most likely faded polarized filters.
If you have a junk multi screen with nice dark LCDs, chances are you can swap the filters with your DK2 and it'll be up and running like new.

There are chances that even the rear silver reflectors have turned bad. By the looks of the game it is definitely the polarized filters that need replacement. I have seen some sell on ebay. Keep a watch for it. I have few brilliant and crisp filters. PM me.

Why is it that DK2 is BY FAR THE WORST when it comes to faded LCD's? Surely it must be something other than the polarizer?

Probably one of the best-selling/best used/best abused games so proportionately higher number of them have faded LCDs?I dont think it's just down to it being DK2.
I have a faded greenhouse and Oil panic...

The only games I have ever had to change the filters on have been DK2's - strange

I have posted my disassembly and restoration of DK2 somewhere in the forums mpanayiotakis.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=gamewatchreview&thread=2400 The polarised filters I know you can get from an online store that specialise in them. The reflective backing... they don't as often go bad. First thing you should look out for, is if someone already opened up the unit, and put the reflector backwards, it will result in very faint (almost invisible) LCD.

On the topic of why JR55 if the serial numbers were looked at one could see if games made during a certain period of time have faded polarised screens, which would confirm whether a batch of them were faulty or perhaps they were not stored optimally at the factory.
