Just bumping this thread. I would still like to sell these shipping boxes. Also, I am considering selling: Marios Cement Factory Tabletop. Fully working but missing battery cover. Unboxed. Donkey Kong Jr Tabletop. Fully working with battery cover. Unboxed.
Offers?

I know this is a couple of months old now but I thought I'd reply. The lack of replies is because either nobody hangs around here any more or because nobody has true 'finds' nowadays. I expect, and hope, it's the latter. I was quite surprised to see that you had found a G&W out in the wild. This used to be extremely common but now ebay is a household name, people get rid of their stuff there rather than selling via a garage sale. I'm sure you know this already. I used to go out to 5-6 car boot sales every week at the height of my collecting. I'm going back to 1998-mid 2000's now. Back in those glory days I could pretty much guarantee finding a G&W every week on average. Sometimes 4 or 5 a week, sometimes none. As the years went on and ebay became more popular, the finds dried up. I saw more competition for the same things at boot sales, either collectors or ebay resellers. Eventually I would come away empty handed more often than not. I still kept going, just for the hunt, but eventually I gave up. It has to be at least 10 years since I found a G&W at a car boot sale, and I do still go, just not as often. I would be extremely surprised if I ever see another one. Bargains can still be had online either with poorly described games or just by pure luck if you put in low bids on some games and get lucky. Just for the record, my cheapest ever G&W at car boot sales were a Marios cement factory for 5 pence and a Mario the Juggler for 20 pence I hardly ever paid more than 1 pound for any game. Those were the days...... Andy

I wonder....what does this say about Eric's carded PS snoopy? How do we know that's not a fake?

I don't get it. All the collectors know it's a fake. There's no real value in such an item. Paying him is going to make things worse, surely. He'll just come up with something else and ask you to buy that off him as well.
If he was to circulate such an item, I don't see how it can affect any 'real' items as there isn't anything remotely similar to be affected.
If I said I was going to duplicate my PS turtle bridge design would you pay me??

Whoa, that old grandpa surely knew what he was doing! And I expect ebay user 'Magicless', his grandson/granddaughter had no idea how much those games were going to fetch! Interesting to see he had written the purchase date, and sometimes place and price inside each box. Some people may not like that but I think it's great to add a little piece of history. The lifeboat PS was purchased for $24.97 and sold for 100 times that price! Is that a good return for 32 years? Sounds pretty good to me!

Too expensive for a full collection. It would be nice for showing off the prized possession in a collection. That is what I was thinking. Andy

Well a fake made egg is no more real than a photoshopped one. But if it's fake PS you are after, Kestrel, I have a PS turtle bridge that I made. Yours for just $1000 Yes, really. Andy.

A very nice try, but that is also a fake. We know that PS Egg does not exist. Well done with the Photoshopping, though, I had to think about it for a minute!
This has given me an idea......

Hi all I was in IKEA at the weekend and saw these cool looking display boxes with LED lighting. I think they should be big enough to hold a tabletop game, or several smaller games. Synas from IkeaGoogle image search SynasAndy

I didn't know that about Nintendo and Popeye. Maybe there's some truth to that theory then. I'd really like to get a hold of the octopus board game, because that seems the one most similar to the G&W. Chutes away is really nothing like parachute. I'll describe the game: To play, you wind up the clockwork mechanism which turns a round landscape on a disc with pictures of 'people who need rescuing'. Next to each of those people is a hole where you are supposed to drop your parachute. You have a rescue plane at the top of the game which has 10 parachutes in it. You control the position of the plane left and right by a lever. You look through an eyepiece which uses a mirror to show you the plane's eye view of the rotating landscape below. When you see a parachute target, you press a button to drop the parachute. Obviously the idea is to try to get all 10 parachutes in the holes. There's good photos and a write-up here: Chutes Away,Andy

Octopus, I would say, is a definite YES. They surely stole that game! The other 2, no. Juggling goes back thousands of years, so the games are based on the act of juggling, no game in particular. We'd have to see more of the parachute jump game to tell. Do we know who made the parachute and Octopus board games? Maybe Nintendo did? They made cards and games long before they made electronics. Great finds, though! p.s. I used to have chutes away! Great game! It's very simple and a game can be over in a few seconds but when you're a small kid, a periscope on a toy is amazing, and me and a friend used to go out and 'act out' the rescues after each game....kept us entertained for hours Andy

It's amazing that we keep on finding new things. Some theories about why these may have been carded: It was a later phase of trying to sell these games. Perhaps something like they were unsold stock that they tried to shift by re-packaging or something. I remember when I was a kid and these games were new, the stock was all locked away in glass cabinets, as they were so valuable. These carded games were obviously designed to be hung up in the store, freely accessible, which suggests they were after the main sales craze. Or: I remember we've seen carded DC-95 Mickey Mouse Panorama, only on sale in Disney stores. Maybe it's something like that, packaged especially for a chain of stores that had hanging storage as opposed to shelves. Great find, anyway. Did you pay a high price or get a bargain? Andy
