Phil, the only way to be sure is to have the authentic items on hand to compare them against the ones you think are fake. The materials and colors for most reproductions are a bit off but it's difficult to discern this when you're just looking at photos of the items because photos can be manipulated..

Actually no, the build quality of the crystal screen games is very good. They look more fragile but they aren't - they are still made of plastic as all the other games. The problem with the lcd screens is puzzling and I haven't figured out why this happens. Btw, the lcd screen in a crystal screen game is a lot thinner than the ones found in wide screen games (for example) so it's a bit more advanced technology..

You mean the NES Ice climber game? Yes, it seems to have been the inspiration behind the creation of the climber game&watch game.
The balloon fight game was based on the similar NES game as well..

Since Jon posted about this problem I've come across two super mario crystal games with the exact same problem! When mario is at the middle of the screen, the sprite disappears! It seems that it's a more common problem than I thought and despite my efforts I haven't been able to fix it so far.. The only solution for now is to replace the lcd screen with one from another super mario crystal..

Just to be clear I meant the codename LR44 isn't used widely nowadays.. the other ones I've mentioned are exactly the same type..

LR44 isn't used widely nowadays so you should look for AG13 or A76 batteries.. They are easy to find..
