I have no boxes. neather original nor repro. I'd like to collect them, but now I have no money for boxed games. I started to collect g&w a month ago and "I think many beginners" I bought unboxed ones first. I have 11 games yet and basically I buy them for playing, enjoying them.
Later, when I'll have the cheap ones and on the way collecting the rares, I'll have time to buy the boxes too. but until that I'll make boxes for myself. Just for fun. With marking on it. And of course will toss it to the bin.

mazlee Well.... If you've gotten your hands on 11 games in one month, you've probably got more money than most collectors in here By the way - welcome to the forum and the hobby.... It wasn't my intention to scare you away or anything.... I just think that repro-boxes (and all the other repro-crap that finds it way to Ebay and so on) is something that is hurting an otherwise cool hobby P.S. It is nice to hear that you intend to toss the repro-boxes when you're done with them... Just remember to do it and also remember that to most collectors a game in a repro-box is still a loose game

I'll just take the side of Mazlee to say that, with the lack of money, repro boxes can be a nice way to display your games, waiting to have the funds to buy genuine items. I collect since september 06, and I only have a few -common- boxes, but I don't want to spend a lot of money in them, so I only buy cheapest ones.
On another board, somebody's doing repro boxes for NES-SNES-GB-MD-MS games and even more. But he has found a little trick to avoid the "fake complaint" : his boxes are smaller than the original ones, and the artwork is often different from the official design. He doesn't sell, but only offers the template to download, and you have to print, cut, fold and glue by yourself...

Well...it's not because I want to stick my nose in what people are doing in the privacy of their own homes... But I think we, as collectors, should distance ourselves from buying and supplying fake stuff - whether or not it's sold as fake/repro.... It's just a simple fact of life... If you have something that enough people desire and you then throw counterfeits, of that thing, in the mix - it's just a matter of time before someone gets screwed... Even if the dimensions or artwork is slightly off.

The problem with repro/fake/whatever boxes and paperwork is that not only they violate a hundred or so copyrights and therefore making them should be condemned from the beginning but they also hurt the game&watch market prices and our hobby in general. And I'm not just saying this because I've payed large sums of money for some items I own but because collecting is a hobby and rarity and game values play a big part in what makes it so great (or in any collecting hobby for that matter). What would be the point in collecting certain paintings for example if everyone could have them in their homes? Noone would care about the Mona Lisa for example if someone created a thousand copies indistinguishable from the original and if anyone could buy one for a few euros. It wouldn't be a unique materpiece and it wouldn't fulfil any purpose (emotional or not) owing it. You can create a flagman box but where is the sense of achievement in that? Collecting fake boxes isn't collecting. Displaying fake boxes and paperwork to your friends isn't very fun.. If you don't have the money to get the boxes, be patient or focus on loose games. You'll enjoy the ride a lot more in the long run, believe me.. Michael

mpanayiotakis:
That's not true.
There are thousands of fake Mona Lisas on the market. but there is only 1 ORIGINAL!
if someone want the original, he still have to pay high prize for it. if someone want only a copy, A picture, not THE picture he could buy the cheaper copy.
Like REPLICA cars. or others
Search for the good quality pictures, documents, fix it, Photoshop it, print, glue it.... I think it's more fun than watching the market and just buy it.
And back to the money. Do You collect G&W for own it or for sell it later with profit? Because the repro hurts only those, who cares about the later prize of it.

Yes and your point about Mona Lisa being? First of all, the copies are illegal. Secondly, imagine yourself in a situation where you are about to buy the painting and the seller says it's the original. You pay him great amounts of money only to discover later that it's a cheap copy.. How would you feel? And even if you know that it's a copy and you decide to buy one, what would be the point in that? Wow, look, I have a copy of Mona Lisa!! So.. what? Big deal. Noone cares. I can print a copy and frame it.
Btw, do you think most people know how to recognize fakes? New collectors don't and repro boxes drive them away.. Most sellers in Ebay sell their replicas for high prices and I'm sure a lot of the buyers don't know what they're buying..
And about the money.. you probably know nothing about collecting stuff probably because you're so new at this. Collecting is always about the money. Rare pieces always cost a lot. And no collector likes to spend so much on items that will be worthless in the future. You obviously don't care about that but start buying more expensive stuff and you'll understand what I'm saying..

The copies are NOT illegal IF it's described and accepted by the owner or someone legally.
If You read back I wrote that selling repros like original is NOT OK! so in this line we wrote the same. But making repros NOT illegal, as mp3's not illegal for personal use.
Buying a poster with a Mona Lisa on it just a fun. nothing else. There's no one who could buy it so It's not about owning or not.
I'm new collecting this, but I collect many stuffs from other style, so I know lot of about it. But If I NEVER can reach something I must satisfy with a replica.
OR
Don't speak just like a collector. If someone don't want to be a collector, just likes these games etc... He'll buy them in the cheapes way and makes them better by this way. FOr his own pleasure.
So again: Selling fakes like Orig NOT OK! make some home made fun boxes for personal use is OK!

mazlee It's only legal to produce and distribute stuff containing intellectual property of Nintendo if you have Nintendos permission to do so... But that's not the point...the discussion's gone way off topic by now... The point is just that it is illegal to distribute fake stuff and it hurts the serious collectors

Hello,
I would like to warn my fellow collectors for the seller Picsboutic on Ebay. He sells a lot of ads etc. I bought 1 of him and saw it was a cheap colorcopy instantly. Lucky I payed via Paypal and could claim him directly and got my money back. He even combined for the add a classic US Game & Watch flyer with a J.I21 one to make it look even more special. NEVER buy from this guy. His rating is only 91,4%, so I can presume I'm not the only one he cheated... He has a lot of items on Ebay now. Some look for real, but I wouldn't take the risk.

Greetz Wow, amazing! I was looking at G&W auctions on ebay yesterday, and saw picsboutic's auctions, and was about to post a comment about them very similar to yours gamewatcher! LOL! I agree, I've never purchased anything from this seller, but, I think all of his/her auctions are all fake/copies of original documents. I remember asking the seller if the pamphlets he had for sale were original G&W material, and his reply was something like: "I am not sure of the origin, I received it from some estate sale..." Yeah, bullsh*t! Unless the estate sale is in your basement next to your high-tech printing equipment, your response is a load of crap! Needless to say, unless you're a collector of fake stuff (and most of us here aren't!) I'd steer well clear of this guy's fake auctions. Mike, I saw that too, and of course, had a good chuckle! "Unique version" - Bwah-ha-ha! I checked the serial database, it's definitely a GH game, most likely from France (Ji21 version). Not that I couldn't tell it was a GH game from the pics, but, I was curious as to whether or not he fiddled with the Serial Number too. AC

Greetz Hello, this seller has several differents name , and change his name several time in a year. You could see his part at this name's boutic : - picsboutic (but this name change) - malabardebrouille (but this name change) I bought a notice some months ago (a pink goldcliff notice) and I'm sure it's a copy because it's not the same format , the notice is more height than the box size ! Be carefull with this guy !
