Hihihi... depending on how old the "boys" were in the 80's, the hype could go on for a while or has ended allready... ;D

You have a very good point, there, Pieter. Prices for top items will stay high until everyone who remembers the games from their childhood 'grows up' or get's a family or somewhere else to drain their money. So I reckon we've got at least another 5 years. Of course, there will always be a few collectors who are younger and still like the games, but the majority will be those who were teenagers during the boom time of the early '80's

I think collecting Game & Watch still has a lot going for it:
1. There are a number of different collecting styles available to you, all loose, all boxed, regional varieties, etc.
2. It is very possible to get a complete collection, the total of 60 is neither too big or too small.
3. The design and playability of the games makes them appealing on a number of levels.
I believe that collecting will be popular for some years to come. It sounds like I would at the younger end of the scale at 26? I know for a fact though that a lot of my mates, same age or younger, have become very interested since I confessed my hobby to them.

Hi
I would like to introduce myself as I am new to the board and the whole G&W scene.
3 months ago I found my old DK II from back in the day. I ebayed the LR44 batteries that I needed and it threw up a few pleasent surprises. I was'nt really expecting to find MIB games from the 80s but it was great to see none the less. I managed to put a few bids in for some games and the rest is ancient history.
These games are so simplistic in their gameplay that they are brilliant. They are so easy to pick up and play.
I have to admit that I do feel a little guilty taking them out the boxes and playing with each game knowing that some of them have hardly been played with but I guess thats what they are meant for!
I'll post some pictures later of my collection. I'm not quite sure how many games I have but it must be around 30 in three months.
Regards
Indy

Hello Indy and welcome to the board! I have to say I wondered if you'd show up some time because I've seen you bidding and buying some items in Ebay. Your handle in Ebay is indymenger, right ?
The story of how you started collecting is more or less the story of most of us! Keep it up!
Regarding the g&w hype, I've expressed a detailed view before. In short, I think it won't die any time soon (if ever!)..

I've seen that you drive the prices high on some items sich as 2 nice JI21 games... (turtle and parachute) are you interested in particular items? such as JI21 games? Mike

Hi Mike I'm not particulary interested in Ji21 games but I do personally prefer them . I'm not sure wheather they are more valuable or not but I do prefer the boxes as they are more attractive than the plain Nintendo boxes. I didn't really start collecting to go for 60/60 but to be honest its great to have something to aim for......but can I afford it? thats another question. This is the first time I have ever collected anything and have to admit it is rather enjoyable. On the earlier post regarding the long term future of collecting G & W, I think its a safe bet that these items will be collectable in years to come. People are living much longer and that sense of nostalgia you get when you play with the games is utterly priceless. No modern boys toy can give you the same feeling. I'm not sure wheather pushing up the prices is a good thing or not, it may be for you guys but I have far to go Indy

Hello, new collector here! ive always been interested in Game & watch's when i was younder i had Bomb Sweeper and Donkey Kong and i knew some friends with some of the other multiscreens, i was too young at the time they were around to be able to afford any of them myself, the ones i got were presents Anyway i was looking on ebay and browsing the G & W just 2 days ago and i have to say now i am hooked, ahh this looks to be an expensive habit!!! I have already purchased Toss up loose, Safebuster, mario bros multiscreen and mario bros widescreen and it looks as if further purchases are gonna be a lot more pricey I dont think at this time i want to get the whole 60 as thats gonna be just too much cash, but just a sample of each genre, ie widescreen, multiscreen, crystal etc Anyway nice to see a forum dedicated to this, i just found it buy accident, its funny though since browsing i see a lot of members here are also regulars on Ebay PS i am still reasearching so i am probably paying too much for my early buys i dont really know but i just want the items ! Anyways see you all around soon, Ric PPS Mike i love your guide! ppps Wow theres some amazing collections in the gallery!!
