Congrats Rene, you predicted it (although I don't know how much you believed it when you wrote it!! )!! Holland looked for sure the better team in the second half and they wanted this win more from what I saw.. Holland could very well reach the final this year!!

Michael
I was 100% convinced we would win. Brasil doesn't have a good team and the Dutch team is very strong. We are unbeaten for a very long time now. The big problem in the first half was that a couple of minutes for the game started, our best defender was injured and a 35 year old substitute who almost hasn't played for a year came in the team. That's why Brasil made the 1-0 so easily and hte whole team was upset. So, now Uruguay. I think we will win with 3-0. How about Argentina? I said it before. A very weak team with a clown as coach. Have you seen Maradona giving training with a big sigar in his mouth before the quarterfinal? Stupid idiot. On the other hand; The Germans played fantastic! By far the best team this tournement. I hope we will play them in the final. So, now it is almost impossible that a South American team will win the Cup this year. Europe rules! René

LOL you're very confident Rene! But I don't think the match against Uruguay will be so easy.. I'd like to see Holland against Germany in the final - that would be great! Spain plays so boring football I almost went to sleep in the half-time! And all but one of the south american teams are out - who would have thought before the quarter finals? A european team could win this tournament and the so many years-long pattern will probably end this year!!

The pattern couldn't be exactly followed, anyway, as we're not in South America, but in South Africa ;D

I just read through this entire thread and it's funny how people's opinions of the teams changed through the thread! Especially concerning teams like Germany and Argentina.
Germany now appear to be in top gear. They must beat Spain if both teams continue their recent form. Not so sure about the other semi. I haven't seen much of Uruguay, but anyone who can beat Brazil must be in with a chance, so my money (and hopes) would be on the Netherlands.
So, will it be a repeat of the 74 final?

So, now Uruguay. I think we will win with 3-0. 3-2 but still the same result, you went through to the final, congrats Rene! Fifa should do something about those linesmen though, they destroyed Uruguay's chances and Holland's second goal was clearly off-side.. Anyway, tomorrow we have a great match, Germany against Spain, I can't wait! Michael

England will defeat itself, some scandals in the Sun, as will my team (the Netherlands). The Dutch team always lose because of internal fights. René No sign of that last night. The Dutch are really working well. Even the English commentators were saying how surprising it was for them all to be getting along! Congratulations to Holland! I have a feeling that Germany will walk all over the Spaniards tonight but we'll see. Andy

We only played good football in the second half against Brasil and all the other games weren't that great. Just like when Greece became European champion, you can see what teamspirit can do to a team. Let's hope we play a fantastic match in the final. A final against Germany. We lost in the final against Germany in 1974. That's still a great trauma here in Holland. René

[/IMG] Michael
Sorry, but I just have to correct you on this one Mike! That second Dutch goal was not off-side at all because Van Persie didn't hit the ball. It was Sneijder who shot the ball, it then hit a Uruguay player and then it went inside the box. I agree it was a very lucky goal, but not a chance on off side here! Regards, Pieter

Well Pieter... The rule of the off-side says that it happens when player A sends the ball to player B who's off-side. Van Persie was off, and one can reasonably think Sneijder intended to pass him the ball and not to shot. And the problem with the off-side rule is that it's sometimes hard to make the difference between the facts and the intentions.
And so, why is Sneijder credited for the goal ? It should be an auto-goal, shouldn't it ?
Sorry, I'm the devil's lawyer ;D ;D

Sorry Pheldge, but that's just plain wrong. Because Sneijder shot the ball against a Uruguay player and only then it landed close to Van Persie, it was not Sneijder's intention to deliver the ball to Van Persie. On top of that, even if Van Persie would have hit the ball technically it would not have been an off-side goals because a Uruguay player hit the ball and technically he delivered it to Van Persie. It can't be off-side if you get the ball from the defending team. As for crediting Sneijder for the goal; that's not more than logical. It happens all the time. FIFA only counts a goal as an own goal if there was intention of the defender to hit the ball. So for example; a defender heads the ball, trying to get the ball away but he accidentally heads the ball into his own goal. If a stiker of the opposite team shoots the ball on goal, hits a defender and then the ball goes into the goal, FIFA doesn't count it as an own goal. If they would, loads more goals would be own goals. Viva Olanda! Regards, Pieter

I wasn't sure that an Uruguay player hit the ball, did he? Anyway, Uruguay's first goal wasn't off-side so.. I still think that linesmen don't do their job properly in this world cup. They made a lot of mistakes yesterday too..
Congrats on your team though, they do have the spirit needed to reach the final game of a world cup!! I have to say that I see Spain as favorites but I'm up for a surprise, I wouldn't mind!

So Spain it is. I was afraid of that. I think we would have a much better chance against Germany.
Lets hope we (Holland) have a great day and Spain has a lesser day.
Holland hasn't played great football this tournement, maybe they have saved everything for the final. On the other hand, Spain also hasn't played great and has problems scoring goals.
I think it is 55%-45% in favour of Spain.
Lets hope we see a great final, so we can forget all the mediocre games we´ve seen sofar.
René

I don't think that the Sneijder goal hit anyone else either. They replayed it a few times and I think it went straight in. Regardless of that, VP was only off-side by a leg's width, according to the replay from the side, and you can understand the mistake (if it was one) by the linesman. Wasn't it the head of FIFA that said it's these mistakes by human error that makes football exciting? He said this after the England goal by Lampard that was disallowed. It certainly gets all the fans talking, eh?! I think it will be a tense final, both teams have got through while not really playing exciting or really decisive football. p.s. on an entirely different note, Mike, are you on strike today? BBC news stated that Greek Air Traffic Controllers are on a 1 day strike Andy

Sneijders shot was touched by the nr 16 of Uruguay. Here's the proof:
Van Persie's leg was just a couple of inches in offside position. His body wasn't. It was not possible for the linesman to make a proper call. Van Persie didn't touched the ball before it went in.
