I don't understand how can Domenech do such a bad job at coaching with so many good players.. France needs a new coach that's for sure.. Greece's problem is similar but not quite the same. Rehagel is a good coach (for the type of football we're playing anyway) but he can't do a good job now because he doesn't trust the players. Maybe you don't know that but before each game, the captain and some of the players usually have a small meeting and decide on which areas each player will cover!!! That's Rehagel job but he can't do it any more.. obviously.. So, I guess we need a new coach too.. And I'm pessimistic about out chances to advance to the next round. I don't see Koreans losing to the Nigerians..
So, what about Germany now eh? Do you still think it's such a good team?

Just finished watching the Serbians vs German Match. Just as we all thought that Germans were favourites for the world cup they produce shoot themselves in their foot. Klose challenge was clumsy and deservedly he got a red card. Poborsky took one of the worst penalty shots that I have seen in the world cup although the serbian keeper did well to save.
I'm glad that the greeks won although they had all the luck go their way: The milking of the foul which led to the nigerian getting red carded The 1st goal for greece coming of a deflection The second goal for greece the nigerian keeper should have saved but the player was their to clean up and slot the goal in.
As for the french team they are a spent force. They cheated to get to the world cup and look at them now. Domenech is trying to get political assylum from other countries as surely he is now a marked man and would be brave to go back to france. Ibelieve the "le hand le frog" incident has affected the squad especially Henry as he is not the same player that we know he is.
Waiting for the next game USA vs Slovenia to start. The timezone here in Australia sucks as it is midnight now and the england Algeria game won't start till 4:30am in the morning arrrghhhh another late nighter!

wow! what a great come from behind for usa to square things up with slovenia at 2-2 down from 2-0 at HT. Very unlucky not to win the game. Had 2 legitamate penalties denied in the 2nd half. They persisted with the long overhead ball passing in the first half which let them down but as soon as they started to pass the ball through midfield they were creating plenty of chances.
Once again very unlucky not to win the game. Englands go to win their game against Algeria to take the pressure of them for the 3rd game.

Well, what can we say about WC 2010. Aside from starting out boring, and as most posters in this section have already mentioned, a lot of unlikely scenarios have occurred, and this makes for exciting soccer! I mean, just when you thought Greece was out, that Nigerian guy (can't remember his name) with all his infinite wisdom cleats the Greek player in the thigh! Why the hell would you do that? He should be hiding his head in his shirt, b/c of him, they lost the game! Don't get me wrong, I'm delighted he did it. B/c of it, Greece scored their first goal (actually, first two goals) in WC history, and also, got their first win in WC history! And how interesting will group B be if Nigeria beats South Korea??? You're right though Arthur, Greece was indeed lucky to have won that game. Had it not been for the red card incident, I think they would have lost. They're definitely not the same Greek team that won the Euro Cup back in 2004! And as Mike mentioned, it's too bad they didn't score another goal to help out with the goal differential... Sure, 2nd place looks to be a lock for SK, but, with all these surprises, maybe Nigeria beats SK and Greece ties Argentina, and we go through in second place!!! ;D Didn't see any games today, but, heard all about Serbia's win, since, the guy that sits beside me at work is half-Serbian! That group will also have a very interesting finish! France? Don't get me started with them! All the signs were there that this team would fail at the WC 2010, yet, I couldn't bring myself to not have them advance out of the group stage. I thought they would turn it around and at least improve on their play come the opening game, but nooooooo. They look worse than the Greeks!!! Too bad they weren't in our group! Oh well, no shortage of surprises now, and I'm sure it will only get better. AC PS Despite the loss, I still think Germany will go deep. I'm sure they'll knock out the English if they end up meeting in the Round of 16, but, if they meet the USA, that should be a great game!

I think Germany will not qualify for the next round. They don't have a leader on the field. Ghana only needs a draw to go to the next round. So, I think it will be Ghana and Serbia. Next big loser will be England. USA will win against Algeria and Slovenia only needs a draw against England. England acts very poor. My team, The Netherlands, is the first one that goes tru to the second round. The games look like sh*t, but the results are great Normally we always play fantastic in the first round and are being dumped in the next round. But this year is different. The teamspirit is fantastic and Robben is coming. Robben was for sure one of the best European players this year. I guess we will play against Italy or Paraguay in the next round. Tonight a big match! Brasil against Ivory Coast. I think 2-1 for Ivory Coast! Brasil doesn't have a good team this year. And how about Spain? Are they the next big loser? They will play Chile in the last game. Chile looked really nice against Honduras. Will the tension get Spain again? Can they stand the pressure? I think not! I think Argentina will win the WC. Messi is really from another planet. d**n he's good. René

Yes, Argentina seems to be one of the most consistent teams in this tournament and they are sure one of the favorites to win it.. if Maradona doesn't do something stupid in the following matches. But the players are so talented they almost don't need a coach!!
Major disappointments of this world cup are Italy (not many good players I'm afraid and the way they are playing they might even fail to advance to the next round!), France (the team that has played the worst football so far), England (they can but why don't they?!!) and all african teams (no stamina and they can't score!).

It would be a huge shock if any of the 3 teams you mentioned (England, Italy, France) don't make it through. I don't know about France as they seem to have the most troubles, but I reckon England and Italy will scrape through.
To answer your question about England, I think they don't because of the pressure. The media is so fickle, building up the expectation on them yet blasting them when they play bad, I would think that as soon as they get the ball they are thinking 'Right don't mess this up or else they'll have me for breakfast' and that's what messes it up for them.
Apparently the Italian Press is just as bad, if not worse, but normally the Italians play so well that the confidence lessens the pressure. England do not have that confidence. Strange, as with their lucky group, they should have been more confident than ever.

Well they did lose! ;D Today they were unlucky though because the referee had no real knowledge of football.. He made some very stupid decisions including the red card.. Anyway, South Africa is out, Nigeria is out, do you think any African team will go through?
Btw, the south american teams look very strong in this tournament!!

The red card was not a wise decision. But out of that, the rest was on the average of the competition.

Poor France...not!
well what an absolute joke they turned out. I feel sorry for all their fans. Players having arguments wth the coach and officials, the coaches mother calling french radio to complain about the treatment of her son...an absolute mess. The french team is like a nice souffle it rises only once and that was in 1998.
At least there known for 2 good things they do with their hands. one is to wipe their tears from their face and the other is to score goals.
African countries have been a big flop in this WC. only 1 win from 13 games. Not even the vuvuzela can inspire them to a win.
As i stated in a previous post it looks like the 48 year winning pattern will continue with the south american teams performing strongly. Argentina is awesome to watch and Brazil are still in cruise control and they only get better as the go through the stages.
I hope and pray the socceroos get through tonight. Hopefully the ref can give us the 50/50 calls as we have had absolute no luck go our way.
