Just a quick question. How rare is the serial number on the box and the game itself the same? If the box and game have different serial number, then does it mean that it has been switched? Should one collect box and game with same serial number? will that increase in value? Thanks..

Aatfik you will hardly ever find a box and matching serial number. All the games on ebay and elsewhere are probably not with their original boxes. It makes no difference and their values will just do the same as any other. Stick to games consoles that are in excellent condition and complete, and you can't go wrong.

Should one collect box and game with same serial number? will that increase in value? Thanks.. A lot of the older games like silver, gold, and widescreen had box/game matching serial numbers when they were first released. Eventually Nintendo stopped following this pattern and released boxes and games with serial numbers that do not match, and some of the later releases don't have serials numbers on their boxes at all. I'm not sure what motivated Nintendo to go through this transition. One collector on this forum named Damian has a lot of game/box matching serials in his collection (or he used to) and probably knows a lot more about it. Whether or not matching serial games are more valuable or not is up to the individual collector. They do show you that the game and box have always been together at least.

Well, obviously, having a box and a game with matching serials is great but they are very hard to find and in most cases neither the box nor the game are in very good condition. Most collectors prefer condition over edition rarity and prices have followed accordingly..

The only time a box with a serial number would ever be considered rare is if it's a Matching Serials box. Which means the number stamped on the inside of the large flap matches the serial number on the back of the game. AC

where can we find this serial database ? It's only on a few people's computers right now. And only they have access to it. It has been updated/modified several times in the past month, so, once all the modifications have been completed, I will experiment with ways of having it posted here on the forum. I will try to do this before the end of this year, but, this time of year gets pretty busy for me, so, I can't make any promises. I will keep you posted as to when it gets updated. AC

Hi Ave, Wow! That would be greatly appreciated. I haven't been able to do a whole lot with the SNDB spreadsheet lately, but, any serials you have, I will gladly accept, and look to update them in January. Thanks in advance! AC
