Another reason I can't readily accept that theory is that each of the boxes in the shippers were stored with their pictures facing the same direction, except for the box on the far left being flipped in the opposite direction. Other shippers I've seen on ebay and elsewhere are also ordered like that, so I'm assuming that was done at the factory for some reason. I don't think someone at a toy store would take the time to place them exactly in that order when putting them back in the shipper, do you?

I guess the guy from who you've bought them did that. René

God knows how Pat continued to maintain his database! By adding all the serials of all new auctions every day...! ;-) Let me tell you why I did stop adding the serials into the DB. On one side it was a lot of work and on the other side the serials page was not visited very often compared to the other pages. So, I assumed that the interest is low. But meanwhile I realized that storing the serials provides not only sort of "track and trace system", but it may give more information as well, such as groups of serials or the number of games produced. That's why I'll continue adding the serials from the current auctions in this November and in the future. And I decided as well to add all the missing serials. I quit adding the serials by July 31st 2008. This gives a lack of serials from then until the end of October 31st 2009. That's 15 months if I'm correct. But because I store every single auction as a file, all I have to do is to open the files and look for the serials. There are about 24'000 files for that time frame. I can't work on this for ten hours or more a day so it will take me about two months to finish this task. And I hope I will not get tired of it... Anyway, I hope to add many serials to the DB in the future. :-) I did read the posts in this thread and in the one regarding the white Super Color games. I must admit, I did a quick "read through" only. But here are my answers and ideas regarding your questions: Duplicate serialsSome of you are wondering about duplicate serials in the DB. Yes, there are many duplicates. Whenever a game got resold again and the serial number was visible in the auction, it got added again into the database, but with another auction number attached to it. Double serials for different gamesI have some explanations for this: - typos (my own ones or by the sellers when they did write the auction descriptions) - the seller did reuse his own auction description containing a serial number and he forgot to change or delete it - other sellers who did steal auction descriptions by using copy and paste and either did not notice that a serial is mentioned there or they thought this is sort of an important "type/item/manufacturer/production number" and did not remove it. I don't really think that Nintendo ever produced two or more different games labelled with the same serial number. But I don't know for sure... I hope I did not overlook anything? If so, please let me know. And: I'm in touch with Aris by email regarding his idea of creating a more complex database of serials. Patrick

Thanks to Patrick I have a very impressive number of games added to the spreadsheet. I have also added all panorama and tabletop games which are on ebay right now. Not every auction has a pic with the serial number, so I've contacted a couple of sellers.
A special thanks here is for Matt, the man behind the ebaystore: electronichandhelds. He has a couple of tabletops and panoramas for sale and he provided all serial numbers of his games. He says "Hi" to all of us and wishes us good luck with our investigation.

Patrick Hi Patrick I'm guessing that it would be quite easy for you to go and look at the MHT files (or however you store the auction details) for those auctions where duplicate serial numbers were listed for different games. That would confirm either the 'mistake in the auction' or the 'real duplicate serial sticker' theory, wouldn't it? There was one specific duplicate, where a serial appeared twice for one game and three times for another, so I think that it's highly unlikely that the same 'mistake in the auction' occurred. The serial in question was 43504660 and it appeared on DK2 twice and Goldcliff 3 times. I can see how a mistake can cause one incorrect DK2, but not 2. Andy

Well, it seems extrenely obvious to me so I'll just say it, Nintendo wouldn't stamp two different games with the same serial number. It's a typo or something else and yes it can happen rather easily.

Thanks for submitting your serials Mike! And Andy, thanks for e-mailing your list of all G&W serials you have ever owned. I hope you two aren't going to be the only ones who will submit their serials to me.... ;D I've been all over the board trying frantically to update as many serials as I can, but, it really is difficult jumping from one spreadsheet to another to accommodate the order that games come up on my ebay's G&W search. So, I'm going to do this a little differently..... I have searches created for each and every game, so I just finished searching ebay, YJ, Tradera, Marktplaats and various sites on the net, and added the serials for all the Silver and Gold games I was able to find on all these sites. I don't know what it is about YJ, Tradera and Marktplaats, but, it seems when you try to do a search by Nintendo Game & Watch, you don't really get much. Like, for example, on YJ, you need to enter "Nintendo portables" to get about 10 pages worth of about 50 games per page. And on Tradera and Marktplaats, you need to enter "game watch" or "nintendo watch" or something along those lines, but not just "Nintendo game and watch". Okay, enough about that! Back to the matter at hand!! I'm asking all forum members here to take a few minutes out of your day, and pull out all the Silver and Gold G&W games you have in your collection (boxed and loose), and provide me with the serial numbers of each and every Silver and Gold series game you have. (Yes, I've done it myself, so, if I can do it with all the game I have in my collection, so can you! ;D) I had 26 Silver and Gold games to pull out and check the serials on, and while a couple didn't have serial numbers on them, I was still able to add about 24 serials to my list just from my collection alone. Can you imagine how many I can add if the rest of you do the same??? In addition to the serial number, please provide (if you know it) information about the type of realease the game is. For example, is it one of these: German release (Tric-O-Tronic) (Games will be in a Tric-O-Tronic box) UK release (CGL) (Box and/or game will be stamped with CGL) Australian release (FutureTronics) (Box and/or game will have FT logo) Japanese release (Jap. instructions) (game will come with Japanese instruction booklet and/or paperwork) French release (Ji21) Will have Ji21 and/or French text stamped on game) Belgian release (Videopoche) (game will come in Videopoche box) Mego Time Out version - Toss Up, Flag Man, The Exterminator & Fireman Fireman (also include whether the Mego logo is present on the game - Toss-Up only) Special releases like Candia, Smarties, Alsthom Atlantique, Vandame, Mizuno, Black-cased Vermin, etc... Thanks in advance. Aris

@andy Yes. For example you can enter the serial number in the search field and then you'll see all auctions where this serial has been spotted. Regarding the serial 43504660, there are 5 auctions showing up. In four cases it was the same seller, named "el.ombre54". It's very obvious that he did reuse his auction description and he forgot to change the serial number. The number 43504660 clearly is visible on the Gold Cliff game. Unfortunately there is no picture of the DK 2 game. The Gold Cliff was sold to the member "mikepowell895" on May 9th 2007. Later, on December 16th, the member "mikepowell895" resold the game to "othello972". I guess we can tell for sure that the serial 43504660 belongs to Gold Cliff, not to the DK2. Patrick

Hi all,
I've listed all serial of my games, and already inputed some of them in Pat's database. And I will gladly provide you, Aris, with the whole list asap. I own now +/- 80 games with only a few missing serial. But no special edition, except maybe a loose MCF CGL and a loose DK-52 with french text over the buttons.
My list also includes the name of the ebay seller I've bought the game from (when it came from ebay). I hope to be able to clean the xls file today or tomorrow (because it contains some other informations you don't need) and give it to you here or by mail.
Pat

Looks like the seller el.ombre54 used a shill bidding account, didn't get what he wanted, and re-sold them later!
That explains that, then! I also couldn't believe that real duplicates could exist, but I couldn't work out the exact scenario where 5 duplicates could be possible. Thanks to Pat for unravelling the mystery.

Aris,
I've just sent you my db by mail. Hope this will help a little. Don't forget that some of my serials had already been entered in Pat's database. So if you've been able to get your hands on it, don't be surprised to find some duplicates.

Here's the serial from my pokka mario bros as well: 38193188 Michael Thanks Mike! If only 500 of these were made, I can tell you with absolute certainty, that they were not part of a straight run batch (serial number-wise) as I already have two Pokkas in my database starting with 370xxxxx and (thanks to Mike's Pokka) I have two starting with 381xxxxx. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know, it's not really Earth-shattering news, but, nonetheless, it's still interesting to me! AC
