Hi friends,
I have a few games to sell on Ebay. Is it an appropriate time to sell during Christmas / New Year? I think many people may be away for their holidays and may not browse Ebay during this time. On the other hand, people may be more willing to buy during Christmas / New Year. I'm not sure.
I would very much appreciate advices from fellow collectors here as you all have more experience than me in selling.
Thanks again and Merry Christmas to all of you!!!

Lio,
My first reaction from a sellers point of view would be not to sell during Christmas as potential buyers don't have any money (they've spent it all on the wife) so would be inclined to wait until after the holidays when everything is back to normal.
Have a good one,
H

Monkeygreen!
Thanks so much for your advice, which sounds very reasonable to me. In such case, I will have a little more patience and wait until after the holidays.

I agree totally with Henry. Potential buyers are away on holidays, don't have time to browse e-bay and already spent a lot of money on x-mas related stuff (food etc.). You see it every year; a few weeks before x-mas e-bay is hectic and loads of g&w's are auctioned and then around x-mas it dies down. I have some spares to sell but will wait until 2004 to put them on e-bay. sAner Ps-btw; for the same reasons it's is the time for buyers to get some bargains ... if something is auctioned with interests you of course. And with the small amount of auctions this might be a problem.

Hi Pieter,
Thanks for your comments too, which confirmed that Christmas is not a time for selling at Ebay (as far as GWs are concerned) !

I have to disagree with sAner and monkeygreen.
The last 2 Christmas G&W prices during the period between Christmas and the new year have gone up - not down. This is I think mainly due to lack of items up for auction during Xmas. Also even though some people might go away for Christmas I think you may have forgotten that the many people who are staying at home over Christmas there will be a lot of them on the Internet for longer since they've got loads of free time. I have noticed in the past that prices generally drop back again after mid January.
I don't believe the theory that a lot of people have spent all their money before Christmas, you only have to go out to a shopping center the day after Christmas and you'll notice it's packed with shoppers.
In my opinion, selling just after Christmas day is one of the best times to sell. Just my opinion though.

Sorry, Im with QJ on this one too. G&W prices in Australia have gone astronomicaly high, especially for Donkey Kong 1 and 2. People are paying up to $100 for a loose donkey kong missing some internal panels and everything..

Hi QJ and IT2000!
Really thanks for your different opinions, which I also concur! I also saw Michael just posted a few items on Ebay, so I presume he's in the same league with you.
So, from the various comments, I would say that there are pros and cons for selling during Christmas, so it's really a matter of personal preference/judgement whether or not to sell at this time.

Lio,
Just to be on the safe side you could always put a reserve price, especially if you paid a lot of money for your items originally.

It's a smart move to set reserve price at g&w auctions regardless of season.. Michael

Hi QJ and Mike,
Thanks for your advice on reserve price!
Btw, I found it rather more difficult to access Ebay today. It could really be possible that more people are staying at home browsing Ebay during holidays.
