Not guilty No doubt another seller got hoodwinked into selling outside of eBay. Will they ever learn? QJ

I have one already so I'm not the one. I made a few deals outside Ebay in the past but no more.. I don't have the time to exchange the numerous emails needed to make the deal..

I'm getting really fed up with this...
This is about the third time in the last few months I've seen a Pocketsize game pulled early. The last time was a Lifeboat which looked brand new.
Who is the person who is doing this and why are the sellers such FOOLS for pulling the auctions? Obviously the people suggesting that they pull it are only doing so fearing that the auction will go for a lot higher than they are willing to pay.
I bet the person who is getting them to pull the auctions is here on this board...own up!

Hello Snuka and welcome to the forum!
The sellers are usually people that don't really know the rarity of these items. Most of the times they sell their items outside Ebay so they can avoid paying the extra fees and to avoid waiting till the end of the auction. I don't blame them. They have every right to do it.
I've made some offers to sellers outside Ebay in the past and I did it only because I knew that there was no other way to get some items before any other does. I don't blame those who do the same either. It's like the real world really. The one who does it first, gets it.

Would you tell the seller lies to deceive them in order to get them to end the auction early and sell to you for (what you think) much less than what it would have gone for if other bidders were allowed to determine the fair market value?

Hello and welcome to this forum Snuka! To answer your question; yes, I would tell the seller lies if that's what it takes to get a desired item cheap or to get it at all. I have done it once, I saw a g&w lot of 4 games and one of the games was Toss Up. I managed to get the seller to end the auction and sell the games to me for a rediculously low price. It's like Michael says; the g&w subculture is like the real world. Even more so; the g&w subculture is a culture in which money really DOES get around. Most g&w's are very expensive and 400, 500 dollar for just one item is not an exception. Money makes people dishonest, that's a fact of life, whether you want it to be or not. I don't feel sorry for the sellers AT ALL if they get rigged. After all; when someone offers you a large amount of money, you should start to think already. Even if I was a layman, I would ALWAYS let the auction run until the end if someone is offering me a big sum outside e-bay. And then again; just type "g&w" in google and you will find numerous sites that can tell you all about the prices of g&w's. Bottum line: when a seller gets rigged because of an outside e-bay deal then it's his own fault. sAner For the record: I wasn't the one who pulled this specific item. I am a cheap bastard and I never paid more than 105 euros for 1 item. -"I made a G today" -"But you made it the easy way - selling crack to kids"

Personally I don't see anything wrong with people making offers to buy outside ebay. If a seller is happy to accept their offer then so be it; that's their choice.
However, having said that, there's no way I would have dealt with this particular seller either through ebay or outside ebay given his feedback record.
When I sell items I quite often get asked to deal outside ebay but usually I refuse unless it's with someone who I know and trust (ie people I've dealt with before, forum members etc).

Snuka, if you ask me, I would never tell lies to a seller. What I used to do was ask the seller if he would end the auction if I gave him a specific amount of money. Usually, the answer was a simple yes or no and the deal was closed. In case he asked me various questions, I would probably abandon the effort since that would mean that he would like to negotiate the price or decline the offer.
Since you mentioned "fair market value", I have to say a few things.. First of all, as we've discussed in the past, there's no "fair market value" for rare items that have a rather restricted target group. If you've been watching Ebay for a long time, you'll probably know that the exact same item can get $8 one day and $65 some other day! Moreover, the procedure to evaluate a collectible item is a totally subjective matter. This forum is rather new but if you visit other fora you'll notice the differences in opinions among collectors about this..

Hmmm now we are getting into an interesting subject...Who dun it I have no problems about asking a seller if he/she has a buy it now price outside ebay, thats what its been put on ebay for [glow=red,2,300]To sell[/glow] ;D im not happy with specifing the amount even though i have done in the past........it better to ask the seller what they want. As for the pocketsize game that started this thread off, it was not not, not really interested in the PS versions unless its spitball sparky or crab grab.

Sorry, I guess I'm the minority but I think it's morally worng and a case of stealing to lie to a seller or get them to sell below what they should have got and deny other bidders the oportunity to bid, fairly, on the item.

Looks like I've opened a can of worms ;D MARVELLOUS Well, guys, the interesting news is that a) I have got the guy to relist the item cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3157682794&category=2541&rd=1even though the stupid twod neglected to mention the "pocketsize" element of the game...... and (much more controversial), b) the seller has told me the ebay ID of the person who made the bid (claiming it was a present for his son.....) Hehehehe Right then, What am I bid to reveal the name/email address of the "naughty" ebayer??? Shall I start the bidding at $20? Of course, if the person concerned is one of us (I'm not too sure actually - I think probably not) Please feel free to confess now ;D !!!!! I will examine my conscience and act accordingly. Seriously though, I wanted to inform the G&W community that this game is still available for 4 days, so that I could be seen to be being "fair"! For what it's worth I think that anyone (myself included) should be struck off ebay for contacting sellers before an auction has ended. If it were seen to be a REAL threat, we might get to "enjoy" auctions such as this. Sleep well XX Jon

Jon, when I first saw this auction I said to myself "boy, this item is going to get pulled quickly..". And there are two reasons for that: 1. You can't find boxed tabletops in such nice condition easily and 2. the reserve was lower than $30 which would make any experienced buyer think that this guy doesn't know what he's selling. Someone just jumped on this opportunity..

ARGH!!! The suspense of who this person is is driving me CRAZY!!! lol. The person who got the Popeye Tabletop may be the same person who tried to get the D.K 2 Pocketsize!!..What is the user id of this person, as at least give a hint (Like country etc.) ***UPDATE at 06:28am*** I actually asked the seller why he ended the item early, and he stated "My wife changed her mind and decided not to sell this object anymore". I am still interested in who that person is who tried to get the donkey kong pocketsize anyway..
