I have a proposal for a new competition on this forum. I think most of you have heard of speed cubing, in which people see how fast they can solve the Rubik's cube. I've seen people do it in under 10 seconds on YouTube which is crazy. I can do it in about 1 minute 40 seconds on average. Any speed cubers here? Anyway, my proposal is to start "Speed Konging." That is, to play the original Game & Watch Donkey Kong and to time yourself using the cube timer www.cubetimer.com/ or something similar. The timer starts as soon as you press the Game A button, and stops as soon as Donkey Kong falls and you hear the "boom" sound. I haven't tried it yet but I think it might add some more fun to this classic game. If it does well, we can also do the same thing with DKII. I suppose we'd have to video tape it for proof, which might be difficult, or we can just use the "honor" system since it's all in good fun. Please let me hear your thoughts and suggestions. Ash

Ash Hi Ash, I think it all depends on the cube, on how fast to solve. My fastest time on the 3x3 is 1 minute 18 seconds, 4x4, 3mins 42 seconds, 5x5 8 mins something, 6x6 18 mins and something. the bigger the cubes the slower to turn, so you can't speed cube on the higher ones, the 4x4 you can still turn pretty fast. I've seen some of those YouTube videos and I think the cube is set up, there's no way for 10 seconds. On the proper competitions I think it's around 38 seconds, which is still stupidly fast. When you say the DK do you mean when all three lives are ended? JB

Hi Jason, Yeah, the cube I'm referring to is the 3x3. I wouldn't know where to start with the others. Your fastest 3x3 time is about the same as my best. There are certain shortcuts and algorithms people take that go way beyond my knowledge, which are based on numerous situations. I think the 10 secs might be legit because it is done in a tournament environment. I believe 5.5 secs is officially the fastest time. Now back to the subject. Basically, I want to see who can knock Donkey Kong on his head the fastest. If it takes more than one life, that's fine. Just keep going until Donkey Kong gets dumped on his head the first time, then turn off the stopwatch. Ash

Suppose it depends on how many Barrels get thrown down to you, if you get a good round you'll fly up there.

I stopped the stop watch has Donkey Kong hit the ground.

I just tried it once and died twice before I killed Kong. I got 1:24.44. I'll have to go a few more times and try to get close to your time!
Second time: 00:49.99 no lives lost. Getting closer...

I just tried a bunch more times and I can't get better than 00:49.99. It makes the game a lot more fun in my opinion. Those two barrels at the beginning eat up a lot of time. I think once I was able to maneuver past them quickly. Let's see if anyone in here can beat Jason's time of 47:09. Dust off your DK Multi Screens and get started! My new best: 48.75 seconds. So close...! One of the keys is to maneuver quickly past those first two barrels.

Anything below 00:50.00 is pretty quick, the slight error can cost you easily half a second. It's just getting that perfect run to the top four times.
