Any impressions? I'm planning on buying it in a couple of months but I'd like to hear from anyone that has got it already!

I promised my son for his 13th Birthday a few weeks ago he could upgrade his DS XL to the 3DS when it came out. So he traded it in hoping to transfer over his downloaded games (about $200 worth). The 3DS systems wifi system is not operational till sometime in May so he‘s now lost his downloads. He wasn’t to happy with that. But The game WoW ! I felt a bit dizzy as did most everyone else we showed it to. It takes about 5 seconds to fully adjust to it. He wasn’t interested in any of the games (only 9 released in Canada) and is awaiting other releases. But it comes with a several games already installed. It came with a pack of cards with items on them. You take a photo of the card lets says its the question mark card. The question mark now appears in 3D on top of the card and the background for the game is wherever your camera is pointing and moving. Then a game begins. I just saw one of a dragon that that came to life from a card in 3D. I will say its an awesome game system. The advance in technology since Nintendo introduced the 1st handheld to this is incredible. I checked out the list of games to be released and am looking forward to Super Mario (no title yet) and Tetris Axis. This is a link to the games to be released. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nintendo_3DS_games Surprising no Donkey Kong on the list yet. It’s a really great idea but with not to many games to choose from. You can play the other older games on it in 2D. My other son doesn’t want one till the new releases come out. I'm still waiting for my turn to try it again. Oh well maybe when he goes to bed. With his trade in we only paid $140 more and that was including taxes.

So you haven't tested a 3D game yet right? What do you think of the 3D effect in general? Does it work well?

Ok, had the opportunity to play with it for a few minutes today. The 3D impression is nice but I have to say that I expected something similar to the impression 3D movies offer when you watch them. If you've never watched a 3D movie with 3D glasses etc. please do as the image seems to transcend the tv or cinema screen (it pops out and comes closer to you). This doesn't happen with the 3DS. Maybe I expected too much but Nintendo's ads imply that it would happen with the 3DS as well.. The effect is very similar to Virtual Boy's 3D effect. You can clearly see and determine which objects are at the front and which ones are at the back but that's about it. Looks nice but I'm guessing we will see better implementations of this technology in the future.
Btw, you have to stay still in front of the console otherwise the 3D effect gets lost and it takes a few seconds to align your eyes with the screen in order to get the effect again.
Having said that, it's still the most impressive handheld console I've seen and I'll probably buy it in a few months' time..
