I'm just about to see the documentary "The king of Kong"... I suppose it's nothing new to you, but I searched the forum and I didn't found anything. In case someone haven't heard about the documentary, it's about a guy who got fired at work and started to play Donkey Kong at nights, so he became better and better... His aim was to defeat the current (at that time) world champion of DK, who had had the highest score in the world for 20 years. What happened in the end I don't know, although I have my own idea about it. While reading about the documentary, I've also known that there is a website where people upload vids taken while playing in order to validate their highscores. The website keeps track of a lot of different platforms and games, but (fortunately) they don't keep track of G&W platform, so we can continue with our normal lives haha!!!! ;D ;D ;D We can even sleep at night ¿has anyone seen "The King of Kong"? Awesome documentary...
What I would like to know is how much time does it take to reach 1,000,000 points??? If anyone knows it would be interesting to know about time!!
Steve Wiebe also plays well drums...

Yes, it's a real story!! The documentary is from 2007. That year happened something that I'm not going to tell because then I would spoil the film!!! It's better to see it!! I recommend to see the documentary!! I thought I would not like it much, but as the film move forward you symphatize more and more with one of the players!! This is because.... uhhh better to see it! The web page that officially verifyes world highest scores is this: www.twingalaxies.com/ The Guinness World Record let's that web to do all the involved with recognysing the records... and Guinnes WR doesn't take part on it neither send referees as they trust on the web.... I think this last sentence is not very well traduced to the english language but I've to go just now with my girlfriend!! Hope you understand me! Racer X.

Yeah it's a great documentary...I really enjoyed it. The film is called King of Kong: A fist full of dollars.
I really enjoyed the part where steve was going for the record (the first time) and his little baby son comes up to him while he is playing the machine and he started crying "Daddy come and wipe my butt"! Steve was like fully concentrating trying to get the last 5000 points or around there to break the record while his little kid is throwing a tantrum! It was pretty hillarious.
BTW i think its mentioned in the film that to get up to the high score or kill screen (kill screen is where the game has a limitation and there is not enough memory in the game to keep on going and hence it just stops) takes about 3 to 4 hours of continous play.
I recommend everyone to watch this. It also has a great soundtrack! Lots of great 80's songs!

I saw the movie last week. It was interesting. You can do nothing but to sympathize Steve and dislike Mitchell. Why is this guy so arrogant? Well, I suppose you have to be a bit "off" in order to devote so much time into achieving a world record so it's a bit understandable..
For those who don't know, Mitchell submitted a new record and currently holds the world record in Donkey Kong, 1,050,200 followed by Wiebe's achievement of 1,049,100!! Wiebe will try to break the world record live at E3 in Los Angeles in June 2nd. His attempt will be broadcasted live in television as well!
Wiebe holds the world record in Donkey Kong Jr. with a score of 1,139,800 points. Mitchell is 3rd with a score of 957,300.

Where did you see it, in the cinema or dvd... where? Haven't heard anything of it here in Spain. I can only see samples in Youtube, but seems interesting.

They purposely portrayed Mitchell as the villanof the film. In every film the basic winning formula is there has to be a hero and the bad guy. How funny was it to see steve go for the record and have his little son screaming and crying right near him! Talk about concentration!
Pablo, do a search on one of the torrent websites like mininova. You should find the film there.
Also for everyone else check out Chasing Ghosts: Beyond the arcade. It tells the story of a group of guys who were champions of the different arcade games back in the 80's. In this documenatry Billy Mitchell does not appear as a moron as much as in KOK. But you've got to give it to him. In pacman he got the perfect score. That is, he got every single pellet, he ate every single ghost, all the fruit pieces on every single board game till the kill screen appears.
A truly amazing feet I must say.

Yeah Arthur I understand but how about the time he passed by Wiebe and didn't even say hi or something.. Wiebe clearly admires Mitchell for what he'd accomplished but it's not mutual.. Mitchell looks down on Wiebe and we're just talking about a video game here! On the other hand, Mitchell's "sidekick" (lol) Steve something in the end says a few good words about Wiebe.. I know the producer probably blew it out of proportion but there's still something there that gave him the opportunity to present Mitchell as a "villain".. Pablo you can find it easily in torrent sites.. I couldn't find it anywhere else, in dvd form or another.. Yesterday I watched "Chasing Ghosts" as well. It's a nice story of what happened to video game champions and to arcade showrooms as well.. I think pacman doesn't have a "kill screen" but there comes a point where the right side of the screen fills with strange characters and you just can't complete the stage.. Michael

Thanks for the recommendation, I had a great time watching the movie. Wiebe lives about 5 minutes from me too, that's funny, I should drive around and see if anyone have their garage door open playing donkey kong

Wiebe lives in Seattle? It seems to be a great city (as depicted in the comedy series Frasier which is one of my favorite shows of all time!).

Yeah, I remember the feeling, the local arcades was one of the few places a teenager could have fun back in the 80s. I never liked donkey kong though.. My first experience with the arcade machines was with invaders, galaga and phoenix games! The first arcade game I got hooked at though was flying shark.. A very nice vertical shoot em up!! Michael
