Oct 26, 03 - 1:02 AM Game & Watch VALUE?
Hello to all the Game & Watch collectors! I used to play these games as a kid and I recently game across my old Donkey Kong. After finding out more information about these games I have really thought about collecting. The one question I have for all of you collectors is: How much do you think you have invested in your game & watch collection? I know there is like 59 game & watch games out there, but if I was to buy all of these games, I am just thinking about the cost. I have been visiting some Game & Watch websites, and it seems the value of these games are very expensive. Maybe I can sell my house and buy Ross's collection! Anyway, Looking foward to hearing from you guys!

Hi Jason,
Well, Game & Watch prices vary all the time so it's hard to give an accurate price.
I really don't know exactly how much I've paid in total for my collection. I know that some collectors have paid many thousands of dollars. A boxed Flagman alone will set you back around $600 USD. I'm sure that Marcel (a well known collector from Switzerland) once said he paid around $2000 USD for his full collection which is very cheap in my opinion. Most of his games are boxed.
Common games like Donkey Kong and Mario Bros are generally the cheapest to buy (around $20 for an average loose game). The rarer and uncommon games like the crystal screen Super Mario Bros would be worth at around $200 unboxed IMHO. Boxed games are generally worth double, some boxes like Rainshower can be worth a heck of a lot more since this is one game that is very hard to find with it's original box.
Condition affect prices greatly also, so expect to pay if your are looking for a mint condition item!
How much you want to spend depends on your goal and budget. Also, if you are prepared to wait and are in no rush to complete your collection then you should be able to pick up some nice deals.
Anyway, good luck if you decide to start a collection

Welcome to the forum Jason!
It's nice to see new people involved in this. I hope you've already read my FAQ. There's a lot of information you might find useful there and although it's far from complete, it will give you an idea of what things you should look for when you decide to start collecting the games.
Anyway, I'm probably one of the newest game&watch collectors in general (I started collecting the games about 14 months ago) so I'm probably the one who has paid the most for the games too.. I can't give you a total because it's very hard to estimate. Most collectors (me included) buy and sell items all the time in order to improve their collection. QJ gave you a rough idea of what to expect. Prices change all the time and since the number of people interested in the games is not so high, demand for the items may drive the prices very high or very low. My advice is to start from the easy to get items so you can understand how this whole thing works. You'll probably need to use Ebay for this. Some of them are: Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong 2, Zelda, Mario Bros, Snoopy Tennis, Super Mario Bros, Blackjack, Donkey Kong Hockey, Donkey Kong 3, Squish, Safebuster etc.
If we can be of any more help, please let us know!
