Well, I'm happy to say that it finally turned up. I'll post this photo here to show you how to pack something if you want to guarantee that it will be stopped and charged by customs...... Oh well, at least it was well protected I'll put a closeup in my collection thread.... Andy

So, Julien, did you get a letter saying your package was being held for charges? Or a card through your letterbox? I didn't so I'm pressing for a refund of the carrier's handling fee....GRR!

Yes, I got a letter ... that makes the delay, for finally getting the package, awfully long Got to pay for handling and VAT around 25 GBP to Parcelforce ...

For my last insured package which price was pretty high (3 brand new G&W from Australia), I decided to send it over France instead of the UK. Hopefully parcel arrived and didn't have to pay any tax at all. ;D I guess the systems are pretty different from country to country, but I'd rather avoid now sending insured package to the UK, because taxes are really too high ... and packages get systematically caught when value is above 100 GBP. I don't know if it is possible to claim a refund as it is not a commercial good? Cheers,

I'm pretty confident that the customs fee system is the same among EU countries. The only difference is when and how a parcel is checked which probably depends on the volume of parcels and the number of customs employees.. Most of the times, only a percentage of parcels are checked.

In the UK, any commercial goods over 18 pounds in value will be liable for duty and/or VAT. Even if it were a gift, the threshold is only 36 pounds, so you'd still have to pay.
The point of my photo above was to say that the larger the package, the more likely it is to be stopped. I think that's because they use a different carrier (Parcel force instead of Royal Mail) and parcel force naturally have more reason to look through incoming packages. It may have been cheaper to send your 3 new games in separate packages.

Understood Andy. I also received some huge package for a tiny content That could be funny ... but it is not when you have to pay tax for it then Though the strange thing is to have to pay VAT for gifts ... I personnally think it doesn't make sense! It shouldn't be called VAT in this case
