@richard
What have you done to improve it? It surely worked, because now you have a great looking fake.

That picture is much better.... ;D
I thought the Tetris was fantastic, but I did notice 1 thing that eliminates it as a real G&W fake? did anyone else spot it?

Steve - nice work on the Tetris - i would have guessed it was a mario cement that you edited Anyway some people have said my game didnt look real - i agree it didnt, not that it had too, that wasnt ever part of the rules BUT my mission was to make a real looking game and i think i failed there so i have been working at the design a bit more not to prove anything to anyone else but myself - this is more what i wanted the final image to look like. I know it doesnt count towards anything but it thought i would post it here anyway Click image for full-size Richard (Thanks) Wow, it's really really impressive Richard, the only very little thing is maybe the screen appearance, but we are very close to a real game ! Congratulations !

I thought the Tetris was fantastic, but I did notice 1 thing that eliminates it as a real G&W fake? did anyone else spot it? -B No, I didn't notice anything, other than that the photo is 'too clean' as I mentioned earlier. Sock it to us, Brendan. While we're on the subject of 'faults' Brendan, I didn't like your model numbers which were too far off the originals to be convincing and I thought the artwork and game description on DKJ were a little too 'tongue in cheek'. Minor details, I know, but I marked based on how convincing a fake the entries were and those, as they say, were dead giveaways. Andy

Well, it's quite easy really, no G&W allows multiple colors for sprites or gfx, as they color comes from a gfx overlay sheet located above or below the LCD. So having different shapes falling as different colors is impossible. The only way you can create tetris as a G&W would be all as one color, otherwise the blocks would look very wierd as they fall, lol. I should have made it DJ-67 or somthing like that. but I sorta liked to sound of triple figures. ;D I tried to copy the style of wording simmillar to the DK box, and other nintendo flyers located on www.arcadeflyers.com ;-) (fantastic site, really helped) -B P.S it took me ages to find a usable gonzo pic, but google finally gave me the goods.

I did notice the colour tetris problem but it wasn't enough to give it away as a fake. Like you said, the blocks would have to change colour as they fell, but it would be either that or make them all the same colour which would be too boring for a tabletop series. Making a multi-screen with a model number of 247 was much more of an obvious giveaway to me. The wording is very apt for a coin-op game and now you've mentioned arcade flyers, it's obvious that's where the inspiration came from. I thought I was playing safe with a variation of an existing model, because I could more or less copy everything from existing boxes, then just pick a colour and a cartoon for the front.
While I've change the subject to my game..... I'd like to invite any comments from members, good or bad, about my box. Particularly, what could have made it more a convincing fake?
Andy
p.s. A question for Richard - what sort of program did you use to create your image? Was it a CAD/3d modelling program or just a paint progam like photoshop?

Andy, in my opinion, the fonts weren't too convincing. Something's not right about them, not sure exactly what it is - it just doesn't look right. The graphic on the front is nice. Oh, one more thing, I think that you didn't get a lot of points because your design wasn't too original.. :smile:

Andy, i really liked your box and i voted it high, one thing though is that even though i like the picture - it looks too computer made (heh heh i can talk as in the gradients of colour etc, if you look at nintendo boxes they look like they are all actually hand painted (hey speaking of which it would be nice if you could get the original paintings of some of the GW's ;D) i would like to see you get the oils out As for my image - well i used Maxon Cinema 4D (3D modelling package) for the modelling, Maxwell Render for the Render itself and VRay render for the recent image i posted I have been learning 3D for just under 2 years now and i like competitions like this as they improve my skills, there was a lot of trial and error getting the mage to look right Richard

Mike, are you talking about the 'pocketsize game' and 'nintendo' text? I assume you are, because I know that they are not perfect. When I did my first pocketsize 'trace' in flash a couple of years ago, I just picked the closest font, rather than tracing the letters exactly. For quickness, I used the same font again this time, so I agree that it doesn't look right. I rather like the turtle bridge font, though, with the 'wobbling' effect. I chose that over about 10 other fonts which I shortlisted. Again, I thought the gist of the competition was to produce a convincing fake, so I thought by sticking to something that 'might' exist, I was playing safe! Oh well. Richard, did you just join the forum to win this competition or are you really a collector?! Andy. Andy.

Yes Andy, that's what I'm talking about. There's certainly room for improvement in any design! But who am I to speak ? I can't even draw a tree! :tongue:

Andy, a late reply from me ... but here it goes anyway. I really liked your box, but the fact it wasn't as shiny as a real box was what didn't convince me 100%.
