This forum's been a little quiet lately, so I wanted to get another 'discussion' going. On the gamecube/G&W page that was pointed out yesterday, there was a mention of the total sales of G&W being 43 million. In the same sentence, though, it also said that there were 39 different models We've seen the individual 'guesstimates' that are on Mike's FAQ and other websites, and they are so vague that they can't really be used to work out the total number of games sold. (p.s. Don't take that the wrong way, Mike!) Has anyone ever seen figures about the total sales worldwide, or by country? I've seen the figures of 2 million in scandinavia from Fred Kellen's site, and 800.000 in Sweden. (Source: Nintendo.se) Any more? Or any thoughts/guesses? Andy.

I have to say that it's impossible to find accurate numbers. I doubt Nintendo or any distributor have kept information about g&w sales because it would have been a tremendous task and it would involve the cooperation of every shop which is impossible. What they should know though are the items they manufactured and how many items they've sent to each distributor or country. Problem is that these numbers may have long been lost.

MikeDotBe, no I meant 39 models. The Gamecube page that we were looking at the other day said 39 models, not 59 or 60. That is why I don't believe the sales figures they printed, that was the point I was making.
Mike P: Of course it's impossible. As you said, nintendo would have known how many they sold to resellers. It's a shame we'll never know. Andy.

Just a thought, Maybe they meant 39 actual different games and not models? As some of the later series' were quite simply the older versions redesigned (Like Mario the Juggler and Ball, Fire Silver and Fire, Manhole Gold and Manhole etc.)

I don't think so. That would make 43 or 44. They just forgot to count some series. If you take the multiscreens, golds, silvers, widescreens and panorama's, you'll have 39 games Or is that to deep? René

Not too deep, spot on, René! ;D And that's exactly what they were basing it on, I imagine. Andy, how old is the original source of that figure "39"? Just for the interest of this thread, there were 39 games released up until the 20th February, 1984. pulse8

here is a cut and paste from the website... The information is given "as is" by the website which is not an OFFICIAL nintendo website... => 2 answers : - they do a mistake in replaceing 59 by 39 - they only count more or less the number of calssic GW games (silver, gold, widescreen, multiscreen and new widscreen...) => 40 games...
