With the last 24 hours' revelations and something I read on Torsten's site, it got me thinking about why we all get so excited about the box variations. Rarity isn't necessarily the issue, there were probably hundreds or even thousands sold of most pocketsize boxes, but way less of something like the candia, bosch, etc specials yet nobody get's excited about them. Is it simply the loveliness of the illustrations on the boxes? That's the most likely reason. If that's so, I reckon the special greenhouse would be less valuable than some rare pocketsizes. Unless, of course, there's a super-special box to go with it! What about a 'backwards' RC-04? If there was just 1 or 2 in existence would they be as desirable as Paul's DKH? I think not.
Comments?
Andy.
p.s. I'm nearly finished with a flash drawing of the lifeboat pocketsize box. It's even better than the rainshower one. I was thinking of getting them printed on proper photographic paper and framing them. Should look nice on my wall.

The reason why I would spend an extra buck for those Pocketsize games, is indeed the nice illustrations they have. That's really cool. It's not the same with the other variations.

Rarity is the main reason I am attracted to pocketsize. I'd like to have stuff that no one else (or nearly no one) has. I will not spend over 2k to buy a pocketsize game like mariobros or donkey kong, even though I really like the artwork. They come up a few times a year, not one time in the whole history of e-bay so far. Rarity sets the price, not the illustration. Isn't it cool to own a game fom which is known only 2 or 3 exist? After that comes the artwork. Other variations can be as rare as pocketsize, but with only slight difference in design far less attractive to me. If I would find a boxed headache, I would trade it for a pocketsize game for sure. Same goes for a boxed egg, YM-901 and flagman. I don't have any problems with that at all. The combination of ultra-rarity and desirable artwork gets me going!!! Mattijs

I tried to dicuss in the other thread, which NOONE had replyed to.... Prices for some items are probably understated, and its probably due to the short timeframe i.e. the items age. Not many items are considered collectable after only 20 years. There are a few, but generally speaking most collectables are a lot older. I don't believe prices will settle in terms of game to game for quite a few years yet.
