One thing I've always wondered - if pocketsize was distributed in the US and canada, 2 of the largest countries in the world with nearly a billion people (a guess!) Why don't we see more of them? Perhaps it was just a small distributor who sold a fraction of all the US games and the rest were as standard? Anyone know? Andy.

It's something I have always wondered myslef - I have to assume that not ALL games were released there as pocketsize, but someone should be able to shed some light on it
P.S. I think there are 325 million in the USA, and 30 million in Canada so you are a bit wide of the mark there Mr Cole

Hi Andy, I asked myself that same question also - no answer I only know that they don't appear on E-bay often, but does that make them rare? I've been reading through your posts and it's very interesting. A few years ago no flagmans, sometimes a silver game appearing and grab crab the rarest That sure has changed. Maybe the same will happen to pocketsize in the future, but I'm kinda hoping they don't Mattijs

I think you're right Andy. It must be true that only a fraction of all the games distributed in the US and Canada were Pocket Sizes. A lot of todays US auctions are auctions of normal DK 1's, 2's and jr's so that supports the idea that normal games were also widely spread in the US.

Err.. pocketsize game came out in only one edition. It's highly possible that all the other editions were sold there in standard boxes.

Pocketsize games were not so common in the US. When I was younger I purchased several Boxed Game & Watch games. And I still have those original games today. Not one of them are the pocketsize editions! They were: -Life Boat -Mario Bros. -Green House -Oil Panic -Donkey Kong 2 These games were all made in the pocketsize boxes, but I was not lucky enough to get them. -Matt

So guys - should pocketsized games all have French and English instructions - or would that just have been those from Canada?

Err.. pocketsize game came out in only one edition. It's highly possible that all the other editions were sold there in standard boxes. Michael Michael, this is almost correct, but pocketsize DonkeyKong (DK-52) came out in 2 editions.... this is the other one: Mattijs

My Opinion:
From what I can tell G&W sales in the US were, well pathetic (from what I've seen). I personally think the pocketsized boxes were an attempt to boost sales (that failed), thus, there is only a limited number of them produced (maybe a single batch or 2).
It would appear from US members / collectors and ebay listings that G&W was no where as popular as in the UK / Australia / Japan etc.
The DK's are the most popular games and hence the most avaliable. Given the rarity of items like rainshower in the Std box, I'd say finding these items in the pocketsized format is going to be very difficult.

Slash is probably right about the extremely low numbers, let's face it, a pocketsize mickey & donald makes YM-901S look ultra-common. Obviously a high percentage of people would have thrown away the boxes, so that has to be taken into account, but we must be looking at numbers in the low 1000's for each model. Possibly hundreds. Would you agree? Andy.

Michael, this is almost correct, but pocketsize DonkeyKong (DK-52) came out in 2 editions.. Yeah, DK2 too but I think we're talking pocketsize games in general here.. Btw, I haven't included anything about it in my FAQ so I don't need to revise it. Michael
