Hi everyone!
I have started collecting Game & Watch games. So far I have Bombsweeper and Gold Cliff. I'm going for the loose games without manuals and boxes, looking for bargains that are still complete (battery cover is not missing and should work well). I want to play them and try getting high scores.
Looking around online I have noticed that many Game & Watch games have faded screens. I've read that changing the polarizer filter doesn't always improve the screen. What is still an acceptable quality for a faded G&W screen? Or should I avoid those G&W and just wait for the best screen condition?

Hi, welcome to the forum.
I've never experienced a faded screen that new polarisers did not fix... unless there are leaked crystals which is a whole other problem I can't think why replacing the polariser would not work.

Thank you. So I don't really have to worry about the screen quality when buying G & W, since the polarizer can always be replaced?
The unofficial Game & Watch collector's guide mentions that this might not always work for at least Donkey Kong 2, so it advices to be careful. But it doesn't mention how well the screen is supposed to be visible.

You can see this with blotches on the screen. If the LCD is only faded, a new polarizer should always do the trick. I suppose there are rare exceptions in which a bad chip, corroded battery contacts, etc. would cause fading, but the vast majority of the time faded LCD is due to a bad polarizer.

Where can I find replacement polarizer filters? Are these filters G&W specific or can I use any polarizer filter and cut it in the right shape for the G&W?

eBay is your best bet really, there's a few sellers so try to find someone nearby to keep postage down. If you can get the material I'm sure you can cut it yourself.
One thing to note is that the sizes available are typically for multiscreen, widescreen, and the gold and silver series... so you might want to avoid super colour or Micro Vs with faded LCDs.
