Nov 5, 03 - 2:00 AM What if Ebay vanished ?
The past few days I've received numerous web page errors while I was browsing Ebay and then it came to me.. What if Ebay vanished ? What if this site ceased existing ?
I got 95% of my collection using Ebay and I rely to Ebay to sell my spares so I can make some money in order to pay for my upgrades or bills. I know that if Ebay stopped existing I would have problems selling any extra items or selling my collection (if I ever wanted to). Most collectors would have the same problem meaning that prices would drop dramatically! We depend so much on Ebay that it's frightening!
How do you feel about this ?

For me it would be a disaster if e-bay vanished. I only bought about 30% of my collection through e-bay, but I bought the other 70% from friends/collectors (like Michael, QJ, wwfcgoober, LID, etc.) who rely heavily on e-bay. If e-bay vanished, I would have serious problems to get new items from those friends/collectors as they won't be able to upgrade their collection and won't sell spares to me.
Let's hope e-bay will stay. I do have the idea that the amount of g&w-auctions is getting rather low. Anyone? Maybe sellers wait for x-mas to sell their g&w's?

From what I've seen lately the amount of g+w auctions is low because there aren't as many buyers out there at the moment.
I'm sure when sales start to pick up more sellers will start selling again.

You don't have to worry saner, because there are many collectors who have there own websites and are always selling G&W games. So instead of buying from Ebay, you can Buy/Trade/sell games from other collectors. That is what people would have to result to.

Ebay is undoubtedly good for trading G&W's but it is also certainly not perfect.
Who here HASN'T been ripped off by some tosser at some point? (My "classic" was a string of broken G&W's from a french seller who refused to give me a refund).
As for prices etc. there is a LOT of dross on Ebay and absolutely no way of filtering it out. I am also sick of people starting auctions at $99 (or whatever) when they should set a low starting price and a reserve because it encourages interest in an auction, without committing the seller to selling it for less than they want to.
Rant over.
One thing that is consistently true is that GOOD items always receive a good following. My ebay policy now is very straightforward - I either want it "cheap" (and I mean really cheap) OR I want it IMMACULATE, none of this cocking around with NMIB.
The one exception to this is if I don't currently have a game. I will bid on 90% perfect games if they are V Rare (Green Boxed Judge etc.)
What's the point of bidding on a "quite" good Donkey Kong 2 I ask you. (Unless it's £5).
Finally, the guy selling the Mickey Panorama at the moment is either taking the ***** or very unlucky in that we all know about the superb one that Michael just bought for the same price.
It will be interesting to see if he meets his $499 target. I, for one, will not be bidding. If he'd started the bidding low, then we might have some action.
Phew, that was a long one!
