Hey all, Just wanted to share a trick I learned on a Japanese website on how to play Gold Manhole in TURBO mode! Maybe it's been mentioned here before, but I'll discuss it anyway: 1. Dust off your Gold Manhole game and open up the battery cover. 2. Prepare two LR-43 batteries. 3. Put the batteries in, press them down, then take the pressure off a bit so that they are not making contact. 4. Perform Step 3 repeatedly until the clock reads 0:00 instead of 12:00, then secure the batteries with the battery cover and press Game A or Game B. 5. Now you should be in Turbo Mode, with the little men running a lot faster than usual. Even when you die, you can press Game A or B again and still be in Turbo Mode as long as the batteries are in! Give it a try and tell me if it works. I've been able to do it 4 or 5 times after a bit of practice. There's also a Gold Helmet trick called "Ghost Mode" in which you can play with two men on the screen, but I think that was already covered in here. - Ash

I used to do the same trick as a kid on Donkey Kong you could make mario float in the air so as to continuously jump barrels until it clocked a good way to get 999 on the high score but i still preferred doing it the hard way LOL

How do you do it with DK? Just do the same trick with the batteries until the clock reads 0:00?

you just kept doing that trick with the batteries and different faults would appear that was the most fun one from memory but you could make several odd things disappear or get stuck.

I remember I got turpo speed and 2 dk jr's by jerking with the batteries in DK-JR Wide Screen.
In Climber (Crystal) I could make the character flashing and none of the enemy could touch him. He could still knock out floors and climb. When the level was complete, it turned back to normal though.

The best I could get was a portion of the graphics disappeared. Does the clock need to indicate 0:00?

No I don't think the clock needs to indicate 0:00. I reall don't remember how I did it other than just jerking with the batteries.

That's a nice find, clayman. I just tried many times but wasn't able to do it. Here's what the Japanese text says if anyone wants to try:
1) Hold the batteries in with your fingers. 2) Take pressure off the batteries so that the LCD starts to fade. 3) Quickly press in the batteries again. 4) Press Game B (this trick only works with Game B) 5) If the men start falling out continuously, slide in the battery cover in place of your fingers.
This should work even after you die, just as long as the batteries are not taken out. You'll probably have to repeat the steps many times to master it.
Everyone get out your silver Fire games and let me know if you can do this trick!
It might only work with earlier versions of Fire, because I know they put in a chip with different numbering to correct certain errors in later editions for silver and gold games.

Interesting you got 3:20 on the clock. I just tried the Turbo Fire trick from clayman, and the clock usually starts at 0:00 or 3:20 or 13:20, then corrects to 12:00 after a clicking sound. A few times the clock stayed at 0:00 or 3:20, but pressing Game B wouldn't activate Turbo Fire mode.

It seems like some games have a mechanism that resets the game if it glitches out. I tried doing this with Super Mario and Bombsweeper but they always glitch out for a second then reset like you pressed ACL.
It seems like glitching the game works better on low batteries instead of strong batteries. I did get Super Mario Bros to cycle through all of it's sound effects in a loop a long time ago. It's how I got all the sound effects for my Super Mario Bros simulator.
