Dear
I was just thinking if any of us has actually counted the character's displayed on the screen of our Nintendo G&W while in the ACL mode or when the batteries are inserted. Lets do this to check which game has the highest number of characters. While doing this keep the following in mind:
Count Every action, digit and figure displayed on the LCD screen while on ACL mode.
For eg. Green House has 70 Characters which include the garderner's action, smoke action, bug action, spider action, flower action, time displayed (each Digit forming a character even the semi colon), Game A, Game B, Miss, Cat, Alarm.
My guess is that Rain Shower would have the most number of Characters.
Please put your findings.
Thank you.

I remember reading what the maximum number of individual LCD segments was in the interview of the Nintendo employees that was put online a year or so ago. The original PCB and LCD's were modified from calculator displays, so they only had a certain number of cells to work with. I think it was between 70 and 80, I can't remember exactly. But if you think of an 8-digit calculator with the maximum display of 8.8.8.8.8.8.8.8. then the number of cells would be 64. For a 10-digit calculator, it would be 80.
Remember that a character on the screen may be more than one segment, as their arms or legs will have different positions and each of those is an individually controlled segment. I don't see why you think it would be Rainshower, but I can't think of a better example at the moment.
Maybe Zelda? As it has the map? Greenhouse definitely has more than rainshower. Pinball ?
I think my money would be on Greenhouse.

Here's the interview I referred to: G&W Creators are interviewed. As you're new here, I don't expect that you've read it. It's a damned good read. Andy

Thank you for the thread andy.. It was interesting.. Andy what i meant to say was not the elements involved but a very simple game plan involved.. Here i intend to say that every action involved in game play to be included as one character.. Likewise the climb of the man in green house to the top would be 3 different actions.. I want to know the most actions in a game & watch.. Hence i opted for Rain Shower.. Now there are 70 actions in green house.. I hope i am able to explain this in a better way..

Now you've confused me. I've re-read your original post and I thought I understood it perfectly, but perhaps not.

I will try and make it simple.. for example take rainshower.. When we insert batteries all the characters are displayed on the screen.. Take a single raindrop and count them, then count the number of T-Shirts displayed, then the Crows, then the man trying to save, count his actions, left right up down, squeezing clothes.. Adding all together will give us a total.. That's what i am looking for.. I do not own all the 60 games and hence put this topic on board.. Cause i would never know how many actions are displayed on the screen for games which i dont own.. I hope i have simplified this task.. Btw am gonna count manhole and rainshower today..

Exactly what I said, then. I still say greenhouse will have the most. Andy

I'm not sure I understand the "counting" method here, but, what about SMB or Climber? AC

PINBALL 99 ACTIONS
Hi Aris.. I dont have a SMB or Climber to count.. What i am trying to do here is when we put in the batteries i start counting the displayed characters.. Just for the fun of it..
Aris also what does the serial number on the motherboard of the games depict? Anything to throw light on them? Have our group worked on them as yet? Need to know..
Thanks..

99? So that's the most then so far.
Okay, I have a Manhole game in front of me. On the very top platform, I count 10 displayed characters, but, what about the words "Game A" & "Game B"? Does that add 10 more characters? And what about AM, is that two more characters? And what about 12:00? The "1" is made up of two segments, does that count as 2 actions? The number 2 is made up of 5 segments and 0 is made up of 6 segments, so, are we counting a "0" as 6 actions or just 1 action? The lady ringing the bell for the alarm. The bell is in two different positions, does that count as 1 or 2 actions? When the guy falls into the water (when you don't get the manhole in place in time) there's water that splashes up, is each splash of water a separate action, or, is the whole display section of him falling all one action? This is what I'm not getting.
Maybe an easier way to find out how you're counting these actions would be to tell me how many actions are you getting on the top level (including the time, the misses, the lady ringing the bell, game a & game b, etc....) and how many actions are you counting on the very bottom level? (I count six actions on the bottom level. And on the entire screen, if I count all the actions of the Manhole character on the entire screen, I get 32. Is this correct?).

Game A & Game B would be considered as two actions.. The time digits are counted as 5 actions as they all are different.. AM again is one action.. The bell will be counted as two actions because it has two different positions.. Each splash of water is a separate action.. Very well questioned Aris.. Your questions and my answer makes this challenge very understandable.. Fantastic work.. I counted manhole actions as 64.. See if you get the same with the above explanation..
Great work Aris..
