Yes well as many of you guys have no doubt guessed,my collection is little more than dust! I have very little left in my collection now.
Basically I just wanted you guys to know the logic behind my decision.Quite simply I need somewhere to live! ,and the only asset that I have that was worth any sort of real money and (to be honest)- has no real use whatsoever! was my precious G&W collection. It really was a very reluctant decision to do this, but as I read in one of Michaels posts regarding myself- Real life needs really 'DO' prevail!
I might also add that this wasn't solely the basis for my decision.I was also getting rather paranoid about having so much money sitting in a draw. The more you collect, the more attention you bring to yourself. As we all know, there aren't just good people out there! Someone might just have the idea of helping themselves to your collection! The life span of LCD's and copies of boxes etc etc was also something that was weighing heavily on my mind.I would really like to start collecting again someday as I've spent so much time researching and investigating this subject,it seems such a shame to have done it all for nothing, however I think I would take the approach of collecting only 'MINT/LOOSE' games.Paying so much money for basically cardboard & polystyrene- looking back in retropect is just insane when you really think about it!
If anyone is interested- I still have the following looking for a new family..
cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=38598&item=3054368036
Mario Bros Pocketsize
Donkey Kong Pocketsize
Donkey Kong II Pocketsize
Pinball Pocketsize
Turtle Bridge
Green House
& by the looks of it a WideScreen Climber,as the buyer has never got back in touch with me!
I think that's what's left- (this is just off the top of my head you see).
If anyone's interested contact me on- nwd@ntlworld.com
If there is anyone unfamilia with me,my eBay user ID is- life_is_disease (I have a good Feedback record- see for yourself).
Just make me an offer- That much can't hurt can it!
Anyway- nice to see you guys again..

Nice to see you posting here, Ross.
I already knew the reasons behind your decision and I understand them completely. I suppose that we will all do the same thing at some point. For the moment, I can keep my games and I'm happy about it.
I hope that you'll keep participating in our discussions and I wish you good luck on building your collection of loose games..
Btw, does anybody know anything about Kevin ? His username in Ebay is inactive for some time now.. I haven't seen any other hardcore collectors bidding in Ebay auctions the past few months, either. Well, ok, that's not totally true.. Torsten has outbid me a few times (the last piece was a blisterpacked super mario bros - ****! ).

I can understand the reasons why Ross has decided to sell, though I do hope he hangs around as he's certainly one of the good guys and enjoy his postings.
Well, I'm also not bidding as much on eBay recently but I'm still here and still an active collector! I guess there's several reasons really why I've "eased-up". Firstly, I've suffered my fair share of bad deals recently. I've recently brought a new in mint box JR-55, though when I received it the box is no longer mint anymore because it got fairly badly damaged in the post despite my clear instructions to have the item packaged well. Secondly, the fun of collecting seems to be fading, mainly I think due to the reason above, but also it's exteremly hard to get a good deal nowdays (which was always a buzz finding and winning that hard-to-find auction!) because there's so many re-sellers nowdays trawling through the listings (not that I've got anything against them) it's almost impossible to find any gems.
I've got to agree with Ross when he talks about the G&W boxes, polyfoam etc., It's a fair point and this same thing has crossed my mind also. I've also thought about just collecting the loose games, especially after my mint Donkey Kong 2 box arrived trashed. I mean, I paid a fair amount just to get a mint box and now it's basically worthless. A waste of money really since I've already got the game in brand new & mint condition.
I'm not sure what's happened to Kevin (gameandwatchcollector). Since I'm on AOL I've got him in my buddy list and can see when he's online. It was about 2 months ago since I last saw him. Maybe he's taken a break for a while from collecting?
Anyway, best of wishes to everyone!
Cheers [

I've thought of this numerous times too, QJ. We're used to pay lots of cash for items that can be destroyed or suffer damages easily and if you think about it really hard then nobody can argue with Ross.
I've also felt this "withdrawal" symptoms myself and after I gave it some thought I came to the conclusion that it's because of the status of my collection which has reached a point where I can do only a few things to improve it.
I still like it a lot though and anytime I open the plastic box I've put my games in, I come to my senses again..

Well guys,
You really got me kinda depressed! **** ... Ross has sold his entirely collection, Spinal and Kevin disappeared into nothing. QJ is thinking of collecting just loose games. Alan (wwfcgoober) is selling loads and loads of g&w's as we speak (even a boxed egg) so I assume he's selling his collection aswell. And even Michael writes he will some day come to a point on which he sells all his g&w's.
Of course I also see where you're coming from. And that's exactly the reason why I never started collecting mimb or nib g&w's etc. I decided (almost a year ago) to collect all the more expensive g&w's (like e.g. Rainshower, the crystal screens, the silver and the gold series, etc.) loose and not boxed. I will only try to get the not-so-expensive g&w's boxed. And even then I don't buy mint boxes, just c6, c7, c8.
I am thinking about something else. Now Ross sold his entire collection and won't be bidding on g&w's anymore, now Kevin disappeared, wwfcgoober is selling his collection, QJ is taking a break aswell and the established collectors seem more and more reluctant to buy top g&w's ... will prices drop?

Ps- We've talked about the lifespan of liquid crystal a hundred times before and I don't think it will be destroyed within the coming years. If stored properly, liquid crystal will stay alive for a long time to come, even longer as you'll be interested in them ... I am certain about that.

Pieter, things are not so depressing.. From what I've seen in Ebay, prices haven't dropped at all, many new collectors have appeared although I haven't seen anyone that could be called "hardcore". To back this up, it was a few days ago when I saw a mint boxed mario bros go for almost $200, a mint boxed Donkey Kong go for over $220 and a boxed dk circus, (box was c7.5, game mint according to the seller, no instructions, only game and foam) go for $320.
I'm not a collector for that long but my guess is that the prices will never drop! (at least to a point that would make us think that we've made a terrible mistake).. After all, there are so many resellers, as QJ said, that it's almost impossible to find anything at a low price nowadays!
Regarding my collection, I would prefer to keep it until I get really old but that's almost impossible since it's more than certain that at some point in life I'll need the money.. If not, then, all the better! I can keep the games! But, since none of us is really rich, I think that this possibility is very high..

Well I'd like to take the opportunity to thank you guys for your kind words! It's nice I'm considered to be still part of the gang so to speak, even though by the time I've finished selling these little sods,I won't even have a single game to call a collection!
At some point in the future my Internet access will probably disappear for a time, but as soon as I'm back on track I'll be popping by from time to time! I'd like to get stuck back in one day! This notion I quite relish as it would be quite nice to start from scratch.I could pick and choose all over again! A Loose & Mint collection- that sounds good to me! They'd display very nicely!

That would be nice Ross! You can find most items loose and mint very easily and at a nice price too (as opposed to the boxed ones!).
