Hey Mike,
Hope all is well with you. are you affected with the riots in Athens? Heard that the airport was closed so did you end up having a day off? ;D Hopefully no damage to your property too!
Wishing things have calmed down over night and the sooner this matter is resolved the better.
Take care mate

Thanks Arthur, we didn't have any problems. The media seem to exaggerate things a little. The riots took place in the center of Athens for a few hours the past 2-3 days. Although the center wasn't a good place to visit for a couple of days, things were pretty normal in the rest of Athens. I live in the Southeast part of the city, about 8 kilometers away so.. Athens is a biiiig city! It's a pity though that some shops were destroyed and looted. Most of the people involved (mainly immigrants) were arrested though.. Michael

It's true I'm afraid, soon after that a mob of angry collectors swept the city to find me and destroyed everything in their path. I can't disclose the place I'm hiding right now.. At least I've got Internet!! Michael

Hello Michael! Swedish media reported it was well-organized anarchist groups that was starting the riots. Any truth in that?

Yes, that's right.. These groups are very active in Greece the last twenty years. They often mingle among peaceful protesters only to create havoc. They live for times such as this when they can find a reason to go out and defy the law and the government. We got used to that.. Fortunately, the incidents are rare and far between and very localized..

Hi Michael! We have them in Sweden to! They´re a bit like football hooligans, but political. Hope everything is calm now! Btw I just experienced my first earthquake today. It was the biggest in Sweden for a 100 years 4.8 Richter But i guess your used to that in Greece. Happy Hollidays! Björn

It's a strange feeling isn't it? Like there's nothing you can do or something.. lol! I've experienced earthquakes up to 7 on the richter scale and if the epicenter is very near it's very very scary!! 4.something is rather common here.. We have small earthquakes all the time but thankfully we have a lot of water around us so it kind of protect us! Michael

In what way does the water protect you? I´ve heard that every step on the Richterscale is 40 times bigger. So i guess 7 is terribly frightening. 4 was like a the aftermath of a big explosion but for 1 minute or something. Because Sweden never gets any quakes you were totaly unaware of what the reason of the house shaking was, it was pretty scary. Happy collecting everyone!

Well, the force of the earthquake dissipates quickly if the epicenter is under the sea because as you can understand rock solid ground reacts harder. How can I put this.. imagine putting your hands between water. If you try to hit your left hand with your right one you'll only feel a small movement at best. Now, if you put a rock between your two hands and try the same thing, the rock will hit your left hand with the same force you hit the rock with your right one.. In other words, the force is transfered instantly from one end to the other of rock solid ground and can cause lots of damage.. 7 is disastrous but there many things that affect the consequences like the depth of the source and the type of the earthquake.. You see since they are very common here we've learned a thing or two about them! ;D 7 Richter scale??? did your house fall down Mike? ;D No, the houses here are re-enforced with steel bars to prevent collapses and fortunately only a few of them have gone down with major earthquakes. Ours has remained intact (not even a crack!) for 35 years now! Michael
