After 5 solid enjoyable years of resisting "New" technology (as far as my phone is concerned), I'm looking to upgrade my Nokia 6310i.
Basically, my 3rd replacement 6310i has died, there are no "new" ones to be had (except the various refurbished ones offered by liars on ebay), so I'm going to take the jump.
I reckon the choice is between an iphone 3G or the new Blackberry Storm.
I have absolutely no experience with either phone, or with their various predecessors, although I know both have hardcore fans.
Gentlemen/Ladies, your input would be truly appreciated!!
(Just so you know, I still mainly need the phone to make and receive calls. Satnav would be nice as would free internet browsing). I'm not fussed about taking pictures. I have a camera for that.
Assume TOTAL ignorance from me, and you won't go far wrong. I have no idea (even) whether there is such a thing as "free" internet on mobile phones. That is how backward I am!!! ;D
[EDIT: I voted for Blackberry Storm, based entirely on what I've read/heard so far on the internet]

I currently own an HTC Diamond and it's a great mobile phone. GPS, 3G, Windows Mobile (loads of programs for anything you can think of!), Bluetooth, Nice camera, Big VGA screen, very thin and looks great. The absence of a proper keyboard might make things difficult for you so I'd recommend the Diamond Pro which includes a sliding keyboard. It's very easy to use but can be adjusted to do almost anything you like from a mobile phone!

Thanks for the input Mike! I'd not even heard of HTC diamond until today, but will check it out in my deliberations. ;D Vodafone do the HTC in the UK (as well as storm), so it should be relatively straightforward to compare the 2! Choices, choices....

Hello Jon,
I've got the iphone 3G. Don't know anything about the other blackberry storm so I'll try and give you the positives & negatives of the iphone:
Positives 1. Everything is consolidated in one device. Multimedia (movies, songs, pics, games) camera, email and of course phone!
2. Heaps of onboard storage. you can get either the 8gb or 16gb model. Enough storage especially if you are going to be loading your weekly tv shows to watch or listening to songs while catching transport to and from work ( This is what I do)
3. The screen is big, bright and clear. The interface is very user friendly and easy to get around.
4. It's very easy to add more functinality from the App store with various games and productivity programs.
5. Wireless internet roaming. so that you can always enter that last second bid on ebay even if you are not on a PC!
Now for the negatives:
1. lack of cut and paste - basically you got to retype everything
2. no mms capabilities
3. If you have big "fat" fingers (like i do) it could get frusturating sometimes using the touchscreen when creating a new email or responding to an sms.
4. The battery - once the battery dies or gets corrupted you've got to send it in to a Iphone store to get the ion battery replaced. I'll see in 2 years time how bad it i!
Overall the postives outweigh the neg. its just so easy to have everything under one umbrella. All your contact details, calendar, to do lists which is synchronized with you email program like microsoft outlook at home or at work are easily downloaded onto the iphone.
Good luck on your decision
Arthur

I KNOW this is a double-post, but it's a new post unrelated to my last post! (Shoot me down in flames if necessary) Nokia have JUST released the N97 which could be *another* contender!! uk.youtube.com/watch?v=2O2Li74EYewAnyone had a chance to use one yet??

Well, I don't have a good experience with Nokia, especially their service department. Expensive and slow.. But maybe things are a bit different there..

After months of planning (mainly caused by laziness), I have finally got round to buying a new phone. Didn't go for the storm in the end (or the iphone). Settled for a Blackberry Curve 8900 (might be called Javelin in other countries?) na.blackberry.com/eng/devices/blackberrycurve8900/Pretty wicked. I'm that sad (pathetic) that I'm more excited about the built-in camera than anything else. (This is from the guy that said he didn't see the point when he had a perfectly good camera!!) ;D ;D ;D Only bought it yesterday, so I've hardly had a chance to see what it can really do, but I'm impressed so far...
