Actually, I like them, but I can imagine some people would find them tacky. Even when I was at school and those type of watches were all the rage amongst the kids and the trendy adults, people called them tacky back then. Not proper watches. That Seiko one looks like one that was used in a James Bond film. I always wanted one of the casio data bank watches, could never afford one. I guess I could buy one for peanuts now, but I'd probably never wear it as I have an expensive watch which was bought for me as a gift by my company I remember playing one of the first digital watches with a game on it - it was a calculator watch and you had to press the numbers that appeared on the screen to make them disappear. If the screen filled up with numbers, the game was over. Really primitive but all the kids at school lined up with the one kid who had it this was before G&W I think. Andy p.s. Just looked on ebay and there seem to be loads of 'NEW' 'VINTAGE' digital watches - it seems that they are re-making some of the old designs, or is it simply that there are loads of stocks left? This is the one I always liked, for some reason Click hereThat particular Seiko wasnt in a James Bond film but a couple of mine in that box were Yes the reason i started collecting them is because now there is an abundance of them going cheap (relative to their original price) whereas i would have had to save up fro a whole year in the 80's (when i was just a whipersnapper) to buy one, i guess its similiar to game and watch collecting in that way The one with the game on was my first ever Casio, thats what got me started! The new ones on ebay are reissues i believe although they are exactly the same as the 80s ones models Now i am starting to get more interested in digitals from the 70s myself especially LED's - I havent worn the gold one out of the house although Ric Oh and guesss what, there is a whole forum dedicated to these vintage watches - pocketcalculatorshow.com/eve/ubb.x?a=cfrm&s=1611011&f=4111001its called the nerd watch message board ;D ___________________________________________________ Indy you just posted at the same time as me - Have a look here - hometown.aol.de/vintagelcdwatch/homepage/hobby.htmlyou may see it, As for wearing them, well some are just too mint, its like Game and Watches - you want to keep them prstine

That must be the one, the instructions for the game sound about right. How primitive!! Yeah, there were some strange additions to watches then they were in fashion. I think that the biggest craze was for musical alarms, just like todays ringtones on mobile phones. It was a status symbol to have the most number of different melodies on your watch! I think that the most pointless digital watch I've ever seen was the one where the LCD emulated an analogue watch! Like thisRic, some of the watches on ebay seem pretty cheap, how does the cost of collecting compare to G&W? Andy

Richard thanks for that info and especially that link I'm pretty bored with my car and modding it or the lack of mods I should say. I've almost collected all the g&w that I'm interested in. I think I'll check the watch scene out and hopefully I can track down some of the cooler watches from the 80's. Those Pulsar watches are great. The LEDs are very cool, just make sure that wear the gold one to a HIPHOP gangsta party with even more gold and fake diamonds around your neck Indy

Ric, some of the watches on ebay seem pretty cheap, how does the cost of collecting compare to G&W? Andy it very random, sometimes a watch will go for £15 one day, the next day the same model watch will go for £70 there are collectors but as there are so many differnt styles of watches (more than 60 ) you dont often bump into the same collector and start a bidding war (so much, of course it does happen), everyone seem to have a different collecting theme basically the pulsars cost me about £150 or less each as LED's have a much bigger fan base and are much more sought after than LCD's but the stainless steel LCD's in my case i think i paid a maximum of £70 for the most expensive and about £5 for the least expensive, People dont so much care for original boxes like they do with game and watches, it mainly comes down to whether the LCD is functioning as to whether a watch will sell for a good price, there is overall more LCD malfunction (missing segments, fading screen) than you get with game and watches but thats probably cos most people didnt strap their game and watch to their wrist day after day in the 80's Indy, its always interesting searching for watches as there doesnt seem to be a limit, i am always seeing more models, there is no way a collector could collect every digital watch! That seller with the Gold LED calc always has some amazing Mint vintage watches, he's the Basicstone of digitals That TV watch is cool, crazy to think it came out in 1983, i was thinking of getting one but it might just be a novelty purchase which i would keep for a month and then sell, i'd still like to see one in the flesh Oldboy's an excellent film!
