FOR YOUR INFORMATION and expercienced by myself,
There is a new european tax (or fee),
Before 1 sept 2005 europeans that bought or traded outside of europe could ask the seller to mark the package as a "Gift" with a low value (for belgians below 45 euro) to avoid having to pay tax
Since 1 sept 2005 even with the packages that are a "gift" and have a low value, from outside europe, you have to pay a minimum tax of 8,68 euro! If the package reaches a certain size, the minimum tax is even higher
so gifts will never arrive "free" anymore and you'll have to pay 8,68 euro MINIMUM to the customs to receive packages that come from outside europe,
That's for belgium, but it's a european law and the "start date" is 01/09/2005,
The customs also told me that some other european countries are even more expensive on this new rule...
Customs told me this new rule is to avoid piracy and misuse of the "gift" option,
So europeans, if you buy very cheap items or loose games in us, switserland, australia, asia or wherever outside europe, think twice, they might turn out to be less cheap
8,68 euro is not a big difference on a game worth 200 euro, but it is a big difference on low value games,
I have a friend that collects keychains, he buys them in all countries for 1 or 2 $, but now he better quits collecting,
Still I would like to ask all sellers and senders from outside europe to keep on using the green CN22 tax paper, mark the packages as a "gift" with a value of maximum 20 euro,
otherwise we have to pay the fixed 8,68 euro + tax (21 % in Belgium)
I thought this information could be usefull for some of you,
Greets,
David
