Dear All, Just to let you guys know, very cheap DVDs are being sold in Hong Kong. I recently bought 9 for HK$150 which comes to under US$2.50 for each movie such as Sideways, Troy, Incredibles just to name a few. Amazing quality. I will post pics later on today. If there is anyone that wants to get some....i can assist for a small fee. Wilson

Mike,
I am not too sure about regions and where they work...
As for them being original or copies.
What do you think?
They are copies but very original.

hey wilson they are cheaper than what my source is getting mine at! the one i'm getting is costing HK$27 each inclusive of postage to australia. they are D9 version which means they are copied from the original movie and includes ALL special features. this is a single disk, double sided. the alternative is the D5 version, which means just the movie and no special features. this is a single disk, single sided. and the guy is charging me hk$18 inclusive all these dvds should be region free and comes boxed in standard dvd boxes, well at least the ones i'm getting are.... and no, i'm not making an explicit offer to help others to get them, as i think wilson can get them at much cheaper price, being physically located there! just merely filling in info and the ones i'm getting also comes with subtitles and original english audio, just like the movie. hope this helps in some way cheers red-buggy

Hmm.. with all due respect Wilson, I think it's cheaper to rent a dvd and copy it yourself. Renting it here costs $1.5 for new arrivals and I can buy blank dvd-5's for around $0.3 each. I don't think it's much different in other countries although I might be wrong.
Then, there's also the problem of subtitles (only english-speaking people would be interested in your offer) and the cost of shipping.
I suppose that people who wouldn't know how to make own copies or bother doing it for that matter might be interested since they seem to be of high quality.

Mike, Further the fact that you can copy I agree and i thought about that but you cant get the box quality and the printed DVD too. That in itself is worth the money if you wanted to start a collection. Does anyone know how to find out what region they play on? It says NTSC on the back. Wilson

Pirated DVD's are usually region free.
Mike, I thought we weren't discussing anything illegal? Or was that only if it's G&W related?

Selling copies of original DVDs are illegal Wilson (everywhere in the world). That's what Andy is saying.
NTSC is a TV broadcasting system which is used in Asia and America. Europe uses PAL. I'm not sure about Australia. Most modern TVs and Video/DVD players can reproduce both NTSC and PAL content with no problems and their manuals should include such information.
Anyway, if people here want to discuss about dvds in general it's ok by me but please don't keep discussing about copies or how to obtain them or I'll have to lock this thread. This is the Internet and looots of people might be watching..

I agree with Mike, if you going to get a copy, you may as well do it yourself, it's much cheaper and not all that hard. ("So I've been told")
