Lately, I've noticed that some sellers in Ebay have been notified about what we write in here, by some people who twist the facts and our posts with the purpose of defaming me or other collectors (now, what does that remind me.. I wonder.. ).
For that, only registered users of this board will be able to browse the Game&Watch related stuff forum from now on.
If I keep seeing this, then I'll take more drastic measures because it would be evident that some users are supplying information about our posts to those people. I hope it won't have to come to that.

Michael I totaly agree with that idea, but just a thought... remember the private thread where the last thread date is october,31 2005 in "Can we say the private forum is dead?" i hope that putting a forum private won't cause the forum to have less visit... :eek2:

It's not a private forum Mike, it's just that guests won't be able to browse it. They will have to sign up first. And it's not like we have abudance of posts nowadays anyway..

I think it's good that you have to be registered to browse the G&W related stuff forum, infact why not make the entire forum that way?
If people are interested then let them at least register. It's not that hard and it don't cost anything. :rolleyecrazy:

Well, you've got at least one lurker to register that way... To be quite honest, though, the reason why I didn't register to begin with was that ... I suppose you'll be a little shocked to hear this ... I've never owned a G&W in my life. I only stumbled across this forum by accident, really, when I was trying to find a cheap little LCD game I used to own, and of which there doesn't seem to be a single trace anywhere. It's infuriating. I suppose nobody considered it worth keeping. What a shame; I used to love it. Oh well. I doubt I'll be able to contribute anything to the discussion, so it's back to lurking, I suppose. Your forum makes for quite a nice read, though, if that's any help to you.

My experience is, that people first want to browse a little through a forum or site before they register.
So a part should be open for everybody. I think it's a good thing to close the game and watch related forum for none-members.
If it would help, is a second question? My opinion is: No. But it's better than doing nothing.

I agree with Rene. I guess people will just register now, don't add anything to the forum-threads and keep reading like they were used to. They can even set a non-visible mode so only staff members and the moderator can see they're online.

Those who just visit the forum can't contribute a thing anyway. Since guests can't make any posts... :smooch:
Only difference would be higher amount of registered users and just as few posts as it is now.

If I might chip in here (sorry if you think that's a little presumptuous of me, but this is a general non-g&w related sort of question, really ): I can see your reasoning, but then again, what is to keep any ebay seller from registering to find out what is going on or what is to keep a registered member from leaking information to somebody? Even if you do know for certain that a particular piece of information must have been leaked by a registered member, that won't necessarily help you to find out who that member was. From a quick glance at the member list, I'd say there must be at least 100 people you might suspect of being potential leaks. Including myself, obviously. But isn't one of the problems about making one of the most active forums invisible to non-members that visitors might perceive the forums as inactive and just leave again without registering?

I think I've explained why I did it - and no, it's not to attrack more guests to register. Raffles I thought you wouldn't contribute anything more to the discussion! Anyway, let us know the game you're looking and we might be able to help you. Where in the UK did you buy it ? Do you remember the brand ?
Very few ebay sellers know of this forum. People who try to sell one or two items in Ebay don't care and they won't visit a g&w forum. It's the same thing for every one of us when trying to sell other items, like a laptop or whatever - we don't visit related boards. So, it's highly unlikely that all those sellers found the forum by themselves and posted negative things in their auctions. No, this was a deliberate action from someone we know.

Hey, I never said I liked lurking, did I? If it's something I can actually comment on, I'm happy to participate. But obviously there's no use pretending I know anything about game and watch games if the closest I've ever got to owning one was having a friend who used to own what I now know to have been a Donkey Kong Jr. widescreen (which she wouldn't allow me to play, by the way). Thanks for offering help on my Holy Grail. I suppose I'd better make a separate thread in the off-topic forum, though, in order to avoid cluttering up this thread...
