Does anyone know which Multi Screen games were released with a plastic protective film over the top metal plate? Were all of them issued like that?
I'm starting to think some of them were and others weren't.

Excellent question Ash! I too have wondered about this, but, not sure why I never thought of posting the question here... I don't know the definite answer to this question, but, I can partially help answer it as I have either seen, or own games with the protective film over the top of the game. From memory, here is a list of games I recall having the protective film: Donkey Kong Donkey Kong II Gold Cliff Green House Mario Bros. Zelda I'm thinking OP and M&D had it too, but, I'm not sure. I'll have to confirm this later, as I'm heading out the door now. AC

Hmm... I have 2 boxed Squish games, one of them is used but seems to have the protective film, while the other one looks 100% mint with everything included, but doesn't have the film. Could it be possible that they issued some Squish games with the film and others without?

I have a squish which i purchased as 'new'.It also does not have protective film.I also have a new blackjack which has no film.I get the impression that M&D does not have film but i could be wrong.

This question has been discussed sometimes before in this forum, it's just you don't remember Aris. Besides the games mentioned by Aris and Ash i can confirm that Safebuster, Bombsweeper and Lifeboat have protective film. At least the ones i own. Maybe some editions of these games didn't have protective film, but who knows the reason for this... Just check all your multiscreen games as maybe there is the film and you don't know it. This happened to me with 3 games i bought in C7-8 condition, and then by surprise noticed they had a film. They are now C9-10 condition thanks to this protection. Even many sellers sell their games without knowing they have a film!

What hasn't been discussed here eh? Well, you're right, I don't remember the discussion, but since you do, what was the consensus Pablo???
Okay, I've gone through all of my Multi Screen games and here's what I have with protective film over it:
Safe Buster Squish (x2) Zelda (x2) Gold Cliff Green House
Based on Pablo's, Flagman02's and my responses, it leaves the following games up in the air as to whether or not they came with the protective film on them:
Rain Shower Oil Panic Pinball Black Jack Mickey & Donald
Can anyone confirm if any or all of the above games came with the protective film on them?

Well, there is no consensus Aris. We don't know why some new games had no protective film, and why some editions did and others didn't. Even i had a discussion with Mike, as my early edition of Donkey Kong of 1982 had a protective film and he said only the later editions had one. So we can only speak about our own games we know for sure they have or had one. By the way i forgot: Oil Panic have a protective film. I also own one.

I didn't ask why some games had it and others didn't.... Ash's question was which games had it, and whether they were all released with such a film. Since you mentioned this question was discussed here before, by asking what the consensus was, means, what did the majority of forum members here decide on in terms of which games had it and which games didn't. Not why some games had it and others didn't. Anyhow, by confirming that you have an OP with a protective film over the metal cover plate, it now leaves only 4 games that so far, appear to not have been released with such a film: Black Jack Mickey & Donald Pinball Rain Shower Can anyone disprove this? Hey Damian, you have C10 RS, (well, maybe it's C9.8 after Pete's handling of it.... ) can you confirm if yours has the film over the front metal plate? Pablo, I see you're a Full Loose collection owner, care to submit your serials for the database I'm working on, or have you already provided them to Mr. Weiss? AC

Well, according to my findings all the games released in the late 80s had the film on them. That means all the latest pocketsize multiscreen games for sure but latest editions of other multi-screen had them too. Pablo's question on donkey kong is a puzzle to me as it was the first I've ever heard about an old release with a film on it. My guess is that someone else covered the top of the game with a store-bought film or replaced the game in the box with a later edition.
Unless you bought your game in a shop and the game was removed from a new shipping box it's possible that someone might have removed the film prior to selling it so whether the game looks new or not is irrelevant.
As to why they did it.. I don't know.. For better protection of the top frame? Covering devices with protective film isn't uncommon today..

AC Sorry Aris, i misunderstood your original question. Well, it's easy to confirm that all the multiscreen games except the 4 you mention had protective film. The difficult here is the matter of the editions protective film. And for the serials i'll do it in the future when i have the time. Thanks.

Oh, btw, blackjack is the only multiscreen game I've seen in new condition with no plastic film on it.. And when I say new.. I mean out of a new full shipping box..

Bomb Sweeper had some protective film over the title inside the game but it was coming off so I peeled it off.

AC Hey everyone, I can confirm that my brand new Rainshower does not have any protective film on it & I have had 3 new MS DM-53s & none of them had any protective film. Also, does everyone realise that multiscreens were not the only type of G&Ws to be released with protective film? Damo

Hmmmm, well, I was thinking that perhaps Pinball might have been the only one that didn't have the protective film on it, but, maybe it's PB, RS, BJ & M&D....
What? Other games came with protective film on them? You're not referring to the cover (over the screens) on the MEGO games are you?
