Hello all, I am happy to find a dedicated forum for Game & Watch. It seems many websites don't have much discussion on pre-Game Boy handhelds, so it's helpful to have this discussion here.
I recently bought some game and watch units, and I was curious about some issues I'm having with fixing them. The problems are thus:
1. I have a Popeye PP-23 which has a damaged reflector. The screen is dark and doesn't reflect light well. I want to replace it, but I would rather avoid paying a heavy price for an original replacement from another unit. Is there a better option that I could pursue to either buy or make my own replacement? I have seen some website discussion claim that metallic silver heat transfer vinyl (like what you would use to put a metallic print on a T-shirt using an iron) is a good replacement material. Can anyone confirm this through their own experience, or offer a better alternative?
2. I have a mario cement factory table top which I bought as not working to see if I couldn't fix it. The first obvious repair was to restore the battery tabs, as they were significantly corroded. The unit now powers on, but it has serious problems with the crystal. It seems that it has a lot of problems with charging the wrong parts of the screen. Rather than show the correct image, it seems to just randomly light sections. I have posted below a gallery depicting this problem.

All of the sound and buttons appear to respond in full, I just can't get the screen to look correct. Is this in any way fixable? I have seen some problems with G&W units before that were caused by loose batteries, and maybe this is so here too. Or, perhaps there is just some connection issue between the mainboard and the liquid crystal.
Any experience in these matters would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again and I look forward to interacting with the forum more going forward.
