Speaking to Paypal my understanding is all they need is a registered item, i.e signed for, insurance is not nessasary, but I would recommend it. my case is in no way unique, visit www.paypalsuck.com, then read a few scary stories in the forums.... -B

Yep, go there and you may never want to accept paypal again.
I'm surprised you didn't know all this before, Brendan. Or was it a case of 'It won't happen to me'?
Like I said before, you've learned a valuable lesson without actually losing any money.
Andy.

Isn't it true, that paypal can only withdraw money from your paypal account? I don't think the can refund from your creditcard, or am I wrong?
The only problem is, that they can freese your account, so you can't delete your creditcard from your account and use it in a different account. It's not possible to use your creditcard in a second account.

Once I was waiting for a refund, and Paypal told me that they had to wait the person to fill up his Paypal account before refunding me. It's pretty odd how this Paypal sh*t is set up ...

It's understandable. Paypal (or any other company for that matter) can't charge your credit card without your consent.

Yep, that was what I was thinking. I couldn't believe paypal was able to refund from your creditcard.
So, when your in this kind of trouble, it's best to withdraw the money from your account and withdraw your creditcard. But that's already been stated.
René
BTW Brendan, I noticed you changed your namesign. Are you now known as: Symbols? Why didn't you changed the S's in $'s?

So, when your in this kind of trouble, it's best to withdraw the money from your account and withdraw your creditcard. Rene, you can't do this after a buyer has submitted a claim for paypal's protection programme against you!! Paypal freezes your account! Michael

Yes, I know that, but I thought that Brendan first got an email from paypal that said that there was an investigation or something.

Well its done now, I've just closed my Paypal account today for good. It's quite funny actually, You have to click continue about 5 times before they actually close it, Stating "Why are you leaving" and "Please call us on this number as any issues can be resolved!"

It's quite funny actually, You have to click continue about 5 times before they actually close it, Stating "Why are you leaving" and "Please call us on this number as any issues can be resolved!" Yeah I noticed this too when I closed my French account to open a new UK account. It is like "are u sure", then "but are you really sure" and so on ... So, when your in this kind of trouble, it's best to withdraw the money from your account and withdraw your creditcard. Rene, you can't do this after a buyer has submitted a claim for paypal's protection programme against you!! Paypal freezes your account! Michael Right you need to wait for all transactions to be completed before closing your account.

Yes, I know that, but I thought that Brendan first got an email from paypal that said that there was an investigation or something. Yeah, he did but as soon as you receive this email your account is already frozen. You can't pay, you can't withdraw, you can't close your account. Michael

When did you give the order for the withdrawal ? After or before it was announced to you that the buyer had filed a claim ? Anyway, when I filed a similar claim about a year ago, the seller told me (after he refunded me) that he couldn't do anything with his balance but refund me (couldn't even pay for other items).
