I am also not representative (haven't bought anything on e-bay in 2004 ... I hate e-bay!!) but I agree with Slash: I would never bid on an item with a reserveprice. It's like he says: I just can't be bothered to bid again and again just to find out I didn't meet the reserve. Besides, I know from experience I always placed a higher bid as I had in mind. To protect myself, I just don't bid on items with a reserve anymore.
But it's like Mike said: it's not representative at all as many, many bidders don't care about a reserve and just place bid(s).
@jon: would you mind pming me your reserve?
Regards, sAner

Ebay Australia no longer allows reserves.

Here's my 2p's worth: When an item has a reserve, you know you're not likely to get a bargain, and that takes all the fun away for me. Yes, the game's worth the ending price alone, but you certainly rule out a lot of bidders with a reserve price. Andy.

I went through a phase of doing "no reserve" auctions about 5-6 months ago, and (with only a few exceptions) I lost out - often selling items for half what I paid for them The worst example was a Lion game with a box (admittedly the box had one end missing!!) but it sold for £28. The game had cost me about 45 and the box was another 20 (well, I did pay too much for it!!!). To prevent the situation of "giving games away" (emotive phrase I know, and not entirely accurate;)) the seller has 2 choices: High starting price or a Reserve. I prefer the "low starting price + reserve" option, because it gives people a chance to nibble and show interest, without committing to a full-blown £300 bid or whatever. If ebay UK institutes a "no reserve" policy, I will just go with the "high starting price" option. You need "balls of steel" to sell a flagman game (especially a c6/7? boxed one) with a 99p start and NR Wasn't gonna happen.... I have daintier balls, and you really wanted to know that didn't you BTW Just in case the penny hasn't dropped for anyone - Jonwiththewind is meant to be a funny pun on the film "Gone with the wind" - Someone has just told me that they only realised this last night, even though they have followed my "progress" for about a year. Name spared to avoid embarrassment!! EDIT: BTW ( redbuggy/ruth): I am always amazed by how few people asked me what the reserve was!! I always state clearly that I will let you know the reserve if you place a bid and ask. I had about 5 queries in total, although there were 18 auctions, and one person only asked about the flagman game!!

I remember "JR Brothers" when he was an active collector a few years ago, regularly upgrading his collection.
Some of his games sold cheap as the above links show, he had an impressive collection. Considering the fine condition of most of his items I would of thought the auction prices would have ended up a bit more.
