btw, I can also make some pictures from the whole "retro corner", it's not a big deal, but I have a cool B&O CRT and some nice designed cubes to sit down while playing some of the best games ever

thanks so much Ash The CIC chip's main purpose was to prevent that unlicensed (pirate) copies would run on the system, and Nintendo wanted since ever to have full control of the released SW for it's platform. I think the m82 was never thought to play all NES games, more or less the games which fitted making advertising at the time when they were released for the retail stores, most of the games I guess were shipped with the unit sure, the benefit of a m82 was/is to be able to change the games, and most of the older games do also work, however I think that some games which were released later on, were better protected than the earlier ones (just my guess) there may be other reasons?!

It's finally time to share the pictures just made half an hour ago. These are the first pictures of this Unit, no one saw it before. It was a lot of work, and I am really happy Nes m82 refurbished & fixed rare demo Unit; Overall description and all work performed: - Unique custom Nes m82 demo Unit - All work professionally done, this Unit offers now many things: - Special and professionally paintwork red cover (car finish), makes a perfect „Nintendo“ look & feel (my „design“, I like it very much) - Power Supply Unit is refurbished (all the old weak electrolyte Caps were replaced, as they dry out and break the PSU and maybe other parts!) - All the rusty screws outside were replaced, now it’s easy to open in case of maintenance (the old screws were black square shaped), - The new screws make it a great look on the Unit, however they have the same look on color & dimension - Special neoprene washers on the screws which are fixing the cover, in order to protect the paintwork - Inner pcb clean-up with special Contact WL spray - Inner pcb screws changed against new ones in the same shape & look, there were also missing screws, now there are all present again - Rare and original Nes controllers, fits very well to this unit - Repaired rotary switch timer function. Now all timers work again, the new switch is also an original ITT Jeanrenaud rotary switch (with more positions) - Slot 9 has the IRQ fix for games such as Super Mario Bros 3 which normallly don’t run properly on the unit due to the CIC protection chip - Special high quality video cable „Vandame“ with red color for Audio and Yellow for Video signal, impedance is 75Ohms, prevents false cableing and electrical reflection, gives also a nice look - Last but not least, 12 of the best NES games ever (okay this may differ from your opinion ) just SMB3 is missing because I am currently playing Metriod on Slot 9 ☺ - Unit is again 100% working (all timers, all slots etc) hope you like it

good news: I had finally cleaned-up and installed the last missing devices to the m82 unit. As it's always time consuming when you do repair/maintenance and my time by now is very limited, I had a bit longer than estimated, sorry guys, however now the my custom m82 NES is finally finished Next will be the session to catch the pictures and a description of all performed work and special things will keep you updated, just give me still a bit time cheers and have a good one, gameandwatch

here some pics before & after the mod on SMB 3, the pictures are showing some sort of shadows on the upperside, this is because I use an old CTR screen and take a picture of it, the pictures in real shows no shadows 1) before mod, title screen, bottom is "cut" 2) before mod, world one, see bottom 3) after mod, title screen, all fine 4) after mod, world one, all fine cheers, gameandwatch

this pic below shows the IRQ-fix or mod. IRQ means "Interrupt Request" and is a signal on the CPU which "allows" games to be "set free" or not, that may not be be the technical correct description, however fact is, that some games don't work at all or at least not properly on the m82 without this mod such as SMB 3, Metroid,...., so the mod is very popular and was on top of my wish list I guess there are also games which won't work at all, or at least it seems so, one sample is Nintendo World Cup, anyway my favorite games work unfortunately no one could tell me how to do it, there are youtube movies showing people doing the mod, but they don't tell you were to connect the wire !!!! Nice huh?! I searched in all possible boards and online sites without getting the info needed, so I took again the data sheet and did it by myself, it took a while, and many tests later I got it keep in mind that I had to be careful, you can't just test all by try & error, as you may destroy some sensitive devices, and on the main board it's very hard to get spare IC's, furthermore they are often soldered directly to the board (without a socket) ! So I had to be very carefull and think first. the green wire in the picture below enables one m82 Slot to be modified. I took Slot 9, as it's easy for soldering & handling, it's a simple point to point solder connection (CPU pin 32 to Slot 9 pin 15, or take whatever Slot you want). Again, if someone needs help, just ask and I will give my assistance. After this, I was finally able to play SMB 3, great feeling

let's go on with some pics 1) Test & setup with new rotary switch, I had to find out how this was working, finding the spare parts, test all the positions (matching with the timer setting on the units backside) 2) New rotary switch in place, the AV-AMP moulde on the left hand side became also a new CAP (precaution fix) 3) open m82 with all 12 module for testing purposes if someone needs help here, I can provide pins & wiring, datasheet of the switch, and also my hand made drawings

many thanks for the link & your research on the US m8, very very nice, the 2nd one is also in great shape love it, maybe my next unit cool, again thx Ash as for your Cabinet CRT; As long as all is a while switched off and you do not touch blank areas (solder pads, blank wires, cap pads, transformer,....,) you should be "safe", however there is always a certain risk... (I am always for the safer path ) maybe you could do this; look for a lokal dealer on hifi & TV, he can give better advice as I can from remote, or see in some online boards for step by step manuals/advice, maybe even on youtube

again time for some pics during reparation, restoration, spare parts: 1) old screws from outer side (inner square head!) & new screws in the same look & dimensions (not square head as I have no tool and nowadays no more available), that was a challenge, I gote 2 times the wrong once... (inch not metric!) 2) old and new rotary switch, the new one is also an original Nos rotary switch! No copy, got a while to find that one, there are so many version of it, be careful, not every switch will work, they look the same, but may not fit...for the switch I had to study the data sheet which I found online 3) shows date 1987 on the pcb, nice
