As you all probably know the modelnumbers of the Nintendo g&w's are acronyms. AC-01 stands for ACrobat or ACtion, FL-02 stands for FLagman, MT-03 for Magura Tataki or Mole Tunnel or Mole Trap, RC-04 for ResCue, IP-05 for InterPret, etc. etc.
A funny thing is of course the mixup Nintendo made with DC-95 and MK-96.
Anyway, what I wanted to ask you is that it seems like noone can figure the acronyms of the Mario Bros. games out. MW-56 probably means Mario World but what the heck do the YM mean in YM-105, YM-801 and YM-901s? I first thought of Jumpman (I assume everyone knows Mario was called Jumpman in DK-52, later they renamed him to Mario). Possibly Nintendo made a fault and wrote Jumpman like YumpMan. That seems far-fetched. What does YM stand for? Can it possibly mean Young Men or Your Move?
I am really curious and take this Acronym-thing seriously so don't respond that it means You Motherf**ker or something like that! ;D

I just had a brainstorm! Maybe it could be gunpei's surname?(the creater of nintendo, i cant think of his surname at the moment, but it begins with a y!), so maybe it could be his surname's mario??
Otherwise all i've got is yelling mario..... ;D ;D ;D

"yellow mario" - I doubt very much this is correct, who thought this up anyway?
I think's it more logical to be Yoshi Mario. (even though I know Yoshi is not in any of the handheld games!).

I have exactly the same thought as QJ's. However, there's no proof of it.

These acronyms are all rubbish. If you think long and hard enough there will always be some possibilities that you could apply to each of the games. I realise that some seem obvious whereas others totally random. For all we know there was probably some sadist working at Nintendo who made up model numbers for some games that bore no resemblence so that people in the future would argue about what the model number stands for !

Ah come on Monkeygreen! You just can't deny FR-27 stands for FiRe, FL-02 stands for FLagman, etc. Some acronyms are just too obvious! sAner

Hi Mike, I see what you and Henry mean, but you can't argue that the letters at least mean SOMETHING. If FL-02 was called XY-02 or BB-02, then it would have made no sense. I am 100% sure the letter do stand for something. sAner

Hey sAner
I reckon YM mean Yoshi Mario!!!
Yoshi is the little fella that runs around with Mario in many Nintendo games. This was Yoshi's first appearance in a G&W.

No worries sAner!
By the way QJ, doesn't Yoshi make an inactive appearance in 'Mario the Juggler'?

Oliver, Does he? Anyway, this Mario-game is one of the many of which the acronym makes sense (MB-108 = Mario Ball). sAner
