Ebayer with rather dodgy feedback sells a NES with 5 games for a staggering $13105. Why? One of the games is a 'holy grail' of NES with fewer than 10 copies thought to exist. Experts say the box alone was worth $9000+ Sound familiar? ClickAndy

Wow! NES collectors face the same problem we're facing the past two years with the box and paperwork remakes. The problem is even bigger for them since there are a lot of people selling fake boxes and even game cartridges! The fact that someone was willing to pay so much money is at the very least admirable!

Interesting the questions to the seller during the auction: Q: I came across this listing and was wondering what is making this particular unit go so high in price? Would love to hear back about it. Feb-05-10 A: Hi Hon.....Please google "Stadium Events"....that is one of the games that is listed and will come with the lot....that is the only thing in the lot that they seem interested in....it is a true rarity and is valued right now between $15,000.00 up to $25,000.00 because as I have heard there were only around 10 ever put out into the population...Trust me...I am totally floored by this....I had to pinch myself to make sure I was'nt dreaming lol.....Thank You for inquiring...Angel Q: Hey. I'm from the NA forums. Glad to see you made it over. You can trust the people there. This is as exciting to them as it would be for an NFL player to win the Super Bowl. Please let this go the distance. Don't let some smooth talker try to talk you into ending it early. This is truly a momentious occasion in Nintendo collecting. Best of luck with everything :-) George Feb-04-10 A: Ty so very much for your help on this ...and I agree, the folks on nintendoage.com are TOTALLY AWESOME!...Talking to them was like talking to family....they are extremely caring and welcoming (not to mention the loads of help that they have provided me with on the sale of this auction item)....they sure give you that down home country feel:).........Angel And that's the explantation when your search for the rarity of this game: Rarity The North American, or NTSC, version of Stadium Events is universally accepted as the rarest licensed NES game available for purchase in North America.[2][3][4][5] It was recently named #6 on a list of 20 "Holy Grails of Console Gaming"[6], a list that covered all gaming systems in all countries. The reason for its rarity and subsequent high market price[7][8][9] is due to its limited production and sales.[10] At the time of its launch during the holiday season of 1987, Stadium Events was only available at Northern-region Woolworth's Department Store, which was a test market for Bandai.[11] In 1988, Nintendo purchased the North American rights to the FFF mat technology and re-released it as the Power Pad. The two Family Fun Fitness-branded games that had already been released, as well as Bandai's version of the running pad accessory, were pulled from shelves and presumed destroyed. Because of this odd sequence of events, only 2000 copies are believed to have been produced, of which it is estimated that 200 copies reached consumers before being recalled.[10] Today, collectors who follow the online sale of rare video games believe that fewer than 10 complete copies of the game exist, only one of which is factory sealed. An eBay auction of a NES console along with a copy of the game with manual and box landed the seller a winning bid of $13,105 on February 13, 2010.[12]

Wow.... Only problem is that this auction kinda lets the air out of "lace thongs" other auctions.... I mean...it's pretty dissapointing to go from a NES including with a copy of Stadium Events to a red strapless bra not even including a lapdance from Angelina Jolie ;D

Attics? This was a new game! Imagine discovering a few of these games in an old toy shop? You could buy a house with 4 or 5 of them! Michael

It was a new game but it was in their attic, I believe. I'm not sure if they were a true collector, but they did say that they had lots of other games, some sealed. Of course, if 4 or 5 more of these did turn up, their value would diminish as people would realise that the myth about there being less than 10 copies in existence was untrue. This one has already blown apart the myth that only one sealed copy existed, this was the second sealed copy to appear. Just like us talking about G&W, all the 'facts' are based on theory and very, very old data that has gone through the 'chinese whispers' machine many times! What comes out the other end can be far removed from the actual truth! Andy. p.s. check out this other story. A garage sale made in heaven!

I just did a quick search on eBay of "stadium events nes" and found a handful of the boxed NTSC versions for sale. I don't think I've ever seen that many loose Green Judges for sale at once. Something tells me there are more of these games out there than people think, including sealed versions.

Most of the Stadium events now popping up on ebay are the PAL, not NTSC version, including that one on the second link posted by fredolococo. The PAL version is considerably more common and worth $200 or thereabouts. People are either trying it on or don't realise that what they've got is a different version.
The PAL version has an oval 'Nintendo seal of quality' rather than a circular one, amongst other differences. It's easy to spot. this one has German instructions, which is a dead giveaway, also.
Andy.
