I recently found a boxed Helmet of mine has matching serial numbers, but the serial number on the box looks like a strip of paper pasted on the flap. Does anyone else have one like this, or know why it happened? I've attached a pic to clear up any confusion. Attachments:

No, never seen that before. Usually the serial on the box is stamped.

I've seen it before, twice I believe, and in both cases it was on the Silver/Gold series of games.
As for why they did it, the only thing I can think of is that they miss-stamped the flap the first time (possibly with a serial already used, or maybe it was "blurred" by movement during stamping....).
You should (very carefully) peel it off and see what's underneath, then glue it back in place! ;D

I wouldn't be surprised if they did, sticking that on would be a helluva lot easier than trying to put a serial number sticker in a tiny recessed rectangular framed area. While on the topic of stamped large flaps, has anyone ever seen this stamp before? Anyone know what it means?? AC

Aris, that's an inspection stamp. They were often used by manufacturers in the 80s to show that a product is working right and has all its components (manual, batteries, etc. in this case).

Interesting.. So that means that this game passed the inspection. Collectors looking for rare/special items should probably be interested in this..

Come to think of it, I wonder why there's no serial number stamped on that box. Maybe it's on the other flap... Update: Never mind. It's probably on the end of the flap.
